Answer: Lou Boudreau

Boudreau's MVP was won over two big guns in Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams in 1948. He went to the Red Sox in 1951, then became player-manager of them in 1952. Lou also managed the Royals and Cubs, totaling 16 managerial seasons. He was inducted into the hall in 1970. He was the father-in-law of Detroit Tiger pitcher Denny McLain, and Lou died in 2001.

Chesbro went 41-12 to lead the American League in 1904. It was the only season which he won over 30 games. He also led the league in games started and games completed in the season. This was all after playing four seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates of the National League.

He retired in 1909 after pitching in one game for the Boston Red Sox. His career record was 198-192. Jack was a 1946 Hall of Fame inductee.
