1. What Pittsburgh pitcher in 1992, was the first rookie in history to throw 2 complete LCS games?

Answer: Tim Wakefield

Although these were all Pirates, the others were not pitchers. Wakefield won both those games against Atlanta in the National League Championship Series, but the Pirates lost the Series. After only 2 seasons with the Pirates, Wakefield was shuffled off to the Red Sox for many seasons, and gave up a 2003 ALCS 11th inning home run against the Yankees, to end the Boston season.
2. In what year did a strike end the season for the first time in Major League history?

Answer: 1994

The season-ending strike happened on August 4th, well into the 1994 season.
3. In 1996, Alex Rodriguez was the first shortstop to do what in 52 years?

Answer: Win the American League batting title

A-Rod batted .358 in 1996, and was the MVP runner-up to the Rangers' Juan Gonzalez. This Seattle great played with the Mariners from 1994-2000, then became a Texas Ranger. Rodriguez hit 57 home runs in 2002. The last AL shortstop to win a batting title was Lou Boudreau of the Cleveland Indians in 1944. Boudreau batted .327.

Answer: New York Yankees

The others never saw a World Series in the 1990s. The Yankees tacked up the Padres, Braves, and then the Mets in 2000. In those 3 World Series, the Yankees had a win-loss record of 12-1.
5. In 1998, who was the first infielder in history, to hit 40 home runs and steal 40 bases in a season?

Answer: Alex Rodriguez

The others had not played baseball for at least 25 years. A-Rod did this in a Mariner uniform. He hit 42 big ones and stole 46 bags. He was 9th on the MVP voting ballot for the season.

Answer: Mark McGwire

Big Mac hit 52 in 1996, then shared his 34 and 24 in 1997 with Oakland and St.Louis respectively. In 1998 he hit his infamous 70 home runs, and topped it all off with 65 in 1999. Mark retired in 2001, with 583 home runs after 16 seasons.
7. What American League team in 1996, was the first to obtain postseason play since 1894, with a team ERA over 5.00?

Answer: Baltimore

The others were National League teams. The Orioles won the wild card spot in 1996. The team had an ERA of 5.15, including starting pitcher Kent Mercker with his 7.76 ERA. The Orioles lost the ALCS to the Yankees.
8. What player was inducted into the Hall of Fame, all by himself in 1993?

Answer: Reggie Jackson

The others were inducted in the 1970s. Reggie loved the limelight and got it in 1993. "Mr. October's" career spanned 21 seasons with 4 teams. He retired in 1987 with 563 home runs.
9. What team in 1999, was the first team in history to score 1000 runs in a 162 game season?

Answer: Cleveland

The Indians accomplished this by scoring 1009 runs, the first team to break the 1000 barrier. Roberto Alomar led the team with 138.
10. 1993 was the inaugural season for the Colorado Rockies. What player led the club with home runs in the season?

Answer: Charlie Hayes

Galarraga was the only other Rockie listed. The 3rd baseman Hayes, led the club by smacking 25 big ones, in their 6th place finish in the NL West. Galarraga hit 22 for the club.
