Both Owens (100m, 200m, Long Jump, 100m relay) and Edwards (triple jump) were Olympic gold medallists. Nehemiah (110m hurdles) would probably have also had a gold medal but for the 1980 boycott.

His name, bizarrely, has also become used worldwide as a pseudonym for anarchist groups and others. It is not clear how this came about although there is some speculation that it started in Italy and may, therefore, be linked to his brief playing career there.

Born in 1862, Sunday was raised in an orphans home and spent eight seasons in the Major Leagues at Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia. His greatest attribute was his speed and his ability to steal bases. Whilst with the Chicago White Stockings, he was converted to Christianity at the Pacific Garden Mission and this led to his "second" career as one of the best known evangelists in America.

10. There are many sportsmen and women with religious nicknames, but few that achieve the ultimate accolade of being nicknamed "God". Of these all-time sporting greats, which was the only one to bear the nickname?

Answer: Australian rules footballer Gary Ablett

Mohammed Ali was "the greatest", Wayne Gretzky was "the great one", and Pele was "The King". Anyway, Pele was already a nickname as the player's real name is Edison Arantes do Nascimento.

Ablett's career ran from 1982 to 1996 and he played all but six of these games for Geelong. He was particularly noted for his goal kicking and kicked 1030 goals in 248 games for the club.
