India's tour to New Zealand started off with two twenty-twenty (T-20) matches between the two teams. Going into the series without a single practice match, the Indians were thrashed 2-0 by the Kiwis. The Kiwis won the first match by 7 wickets and the second by 5 wickets, to take the series 2-0.

New Zealand's wicket-keeper and opening batsman Brendon McCullum played a key role in the Kiwi win in the T-20 series. He scored the most runs in the series, with 125 runs in two matches with a highest score of 69. He hit 10 fours and 4 sixes. India's top scorer in the series was Suresh Raina who scored 61 runs in 2 matches.
