Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following Spurs players held the NBA scoring title (points per game) more times?

Answer: George Gervin

George Gervin was the only player from the 1980s not named Michael Jordan to have at least three scoring titles to his credit. David Robinson only held one scoring title. Tim Duncan and Sean Elliott never led the league in scoring.
2. What was the original mascot name of the franchise that played in San Antonio in the 1970s?

Answer: Chaparrals

The Spurs franchise were originally the Dallas Chaparrals. The Nuggets were also a team from the ABA days, but were in Denver. The Texans are, of course, the mascot of Houston's NFL franchise.
3. Which former Spur became an ordained minister in the early 1990s?

Answer: Terry Cummings

Terry Cummings is an ordained minister, who has also provided his services at NBA player's weddings.
4. Which player, who had a short stint with the Spurs in the early 90s, had the nickname "Sweet Pea"?

Answer: Lloyd Daniels

Lloyd Daniels was a playground legend from New York, who also survived a near-fatal shooting before he played with the Spurs.
5. Who coached David Robinson's first game as an NBA player in 1989?

Answer: Larry Brown

While Larry Brown coached Robinson in his youth, he was a big advocate of transition offense/defense (constantly running the floor). He liked this game plan because Robinson was so much quicker than other NBA centers.
6. George Gervin was immortalized in a shoe poster in which this "Iceman" was sitting upon an ice throne. Which was the shoe company that ran the poster in the early 1980s?

Answer: Nike

The Iceman was the coolest (no pun intended) Spur of all-time. His nickname in the NBA was the "Iceman".
7. In 2000, which Spur was the first player in NBA history to come back and play an NBA game after an organ transplant?

Answer: Sean Elliott

His first points scored after coming back from a kidney transplant were on a dunk over Dikembe Mutombo.
8. During Robinson's and Elliott's rookie year (1989-1990), which team did the Spurs lose to in the second round of the playoffs?

Answer: Portland Trail Blazers

Starting five from that year (1989-1990): David Robinson, Terry Cummings, Sean Elliott, Willie Anderson, and Rod Strickland.
9. Who was the first Spur to record a quadruple-double?

Answer: Alvin Robertson

Alvin scored his first in the 1980s, and David scored the second, in 1994.
10. Which former San Antonio Spur went to Drexel University and is not only an accomplished chess player, but also an excellent tuba player?

Answer: Malik Rose

Malik Rose is an all-time fan favorite, and will always be welcome in the Alamo City.
