Answer: Rod Roddy

Rod Roddy suffered from colon and breast cancer and died at the age of 66. Rod was the announcer from 1985 to 2003. He had to miss several episodes of "The Price is Right" throughout his last two years because of his surgery and chemotherapy.
He was also known for his brightly colored jackets that he received from Thailand. Although he originally wrote regular suits, these jackets would become a well-known part of the show and of Rod.
Other game shows that Rod announced included "Press Your Luck", "Whew!", "Love Connection", "Hit Man", and "Battlestars".

Answer: spayed or neutered

Bob did not originally say "Help control the pet population; have your pets spayed or neutered". This began in 1982 shortly after his wife, Dorothy Jo, passed away. Even though, it was only occasionally he said that phrase; it would be years later before he said it at the conclusion of every single show.
When his wife died, Bob became an animal rights advocate. He would also have pet adoption segments on the show where Bob would have pets (almost always dogs) on the show that would need to be adopted.

Answer: $10,000

The Big Wheel debuted in 1975, and the rules stated that if a contestant spun $1 in one spin or a combination of two spins, the contestant would get $1,000. However, there would not be any bonus spin until three years later in 1978. When the bonus spin began, if a contestant spun $0.05 or $0.15 in a single spin, the contestant would get a $5,000 bonus, but if the contestant spun $1.00 in a single spin, the contestant would get a $10,000 bonus.
Starting in 2008, the $0.05 and the $0.15 would award a contestant $10,000 and the $1 would award a contestant $25,000.

Answer: Bob Barker

In April 2009, Bob made his first return to "The Price is Right" where he promoted his book "Priceless Memories" which was the story of his life. His appearance was near the end of the show, during the Showcases; in fact, both showcases were centered around his book.

In the first showcase there was a computer (representing how they can get a book), a trip to New York (in case they didn't want to wait for the book to come by mail as it would if it was brought on a computer), and a car (a way to go to a bookstore to get as many books as possible).

In the second showcase, it was about how they might read Bob's book. You could read a book on a plane ride (which was a trip to Cabo San Lucas) or in a place that is very special to them (which was a private yacht). Not only were the showcases based on "Priceless Memories", but Bob announced that everybody in the audience would receive a copy of his book!

Answer: It determined who will play a pricing game.

After contestants are called to "come on down", an item was shown and the four contestants are asked to bid on it, and the one who bid closest to the actual retail price without going over won the item and came on stage to play a pricing game. When "The Price is Right" debuted, the readout displays were all brown and an asterisk was shown who won the item up for bid.

In 1975, the displays were changed with each display getting its own color. From left to right, the colors were red, green, yellow, and blue.

The asterisk was no longer shown on the winner's display. In 1981, the green and blue displays switched places, meaning the order was now red, blue, yellow, and green.

Answer: Clips from past episodes were shown.

Most primetime episodes had higher priced items that the contestants could win. However, in the 25th anniversary special (aired in 1996) and Bob's 50 years in television special (aired in 2007) clips were shown from past episodes. In the case of the latter, clips were also shown from "Truth or Consequences", "Happy Gilmore", and an episode of "Bonanza" in which Bob had a guest appearance. To accommodate these clips, the half hour version of "The Price is Right" was played.

In the half hour version, there were three pricing games instead of six, and no Showcase Showdown.

The two contestants who advanced to the Showcase were the two highest winners during the show.

Answer: Rich Fields

Rich Fields was the third announcer on "The Price is Right" and the first to announce with Drew Carey as host. Rich was the announcer from 2004 to 2010 and was also the first announcer to depart "The Price is Right" for reasons other than health. According to him, he was let go after the staff wanted a change in direction. Succeeding him was George Gray, the first announcer to have never announced with Bob as host. After leaving "The Price is Right", Rich auditioned for the role of announcer on "Wheel of Fortune" following the death of Charlie O'Donnell; however, Rich was unsuccessful in getting the role.

Answer: all six games were played for cars

The show's 5000th episode aired on April 9, 1998. At the beginning of this episode, Lucy Johnson, who was the Senior Vice President of Daytime and Children's Television Programming at CBS, announced that Studio 33, where "The Price is Right" was being taped, would be renamed "The Bob Barker Studio".
Also, on the 5000th episode, all six pricing games were played for a car. Usually, it's just two or three of the six games that were played for cars, but not on the 5000th episode!
The six pricing game were Lucky $even, Cliff Hangers, Any Number, Double Prices, One Away, and Five Price Tags. Of those games, Cliff Hangers and Double Prices are not always played for cars; the other four pricing games are played for cars.

Answer: On the Spot

On the Spot first premiered in 2003. It's also the only game out of the four options provided that was always played for a car as well as the only one of the four games that was retired by the time Drew took over as host.

On the Spot is played by having a contestant start on a large circle (the spot) and must get off the circle. There were three paths off the spot, each of which contained three prices. Some of these prices were on multiple paths. To get off the spot, the contestant had to guess which of the six items had a price that was identical to the one on the path. If they guessed correctly, they could continue on down the path and if they guessed all three prices right, they would win a car. If they guessed wrong, they would have to pick a different path. This game was retired almost two years later due to the game having a low win rate.
Plinko premiered in 1983, Secret X in 1979, and Double Cross in 2012, five years after Bob retired.

Answer: September 4, 1972

"The Price is Right" debuted on September 4, 1972, with Bob as host, Johnny as announcer, and Anitra & Janice as the models (not yet called Barker's Beauties). It was originally a half-hour program; however, during the week of September 8-12, 1975, the show experimented with an hour-long format.

This proved so successful that starting on November 3, 1975, the show went hour-long permanently, although there would still be the occasional half-hour episode for various reasons until 1994. This was due to the CBS programming schedule rather than a personal decision by the staff at "The Price is Right".
