Shadow was created to save a dying Maria, Doctor Robotnik's granddaughter. Shadow fell in love with Maria, but she was killed by the Guardian Units of Nations. As she was dying Shadow promised Maria he would do everything he could to protect the world. He, allegedly, died in "Sonic Adventure 2: Battle" while trying to help Sonic.

ARK was built by Doctor Robotnik over a period of fifty years. It was built for scientific research and experiments, but was also used to store weapons of mass destruction. Shadow The Hedgehog was created on ARK. Doctor Robotnik had a self-destruct put into ARK in case Sonic and his friends attempted to use it for their good.

In "Sonic Adventure 2: Battle", after Shadow realized that Maria would want him to help save the world, Shadow helped Sonic and the others stop ARK from crashing into Earth, killing millions. Because of his actions, Shadow was presumed dead.

Shadow the Hedgehog can use the Chaos Emeralds to warp time and space. There are seven Chaos Emeralds in the game colored in blue, green, purple, red, turquoise, white, and yellow. If Doctor Eggman gets control of all seven Chaos Emeralds he can destroy Sonic.

When it was discovered that the "Sonic" games were performing better in the United States than in Japan, twelve team members from Japan calling themselves Sonic Team USA came to San Francisco, California in 1999 to help develop the game for the United States. While the Japanese team was in San Francisco, the team created "Sonic Adventure 2: Battle". In 2008, the Japanese team moved from California back to Japan and rejoined the "Sonic" team.

The City Space level can be played in 2D or 3D. Yosemite National Park was also used as as backdrop for the game.

After informing Sonic about the space colony's destruction over the phone, Tails turns the Cyclone into a kart and uses it to get to the president to tell him.

Knuckles is the last remaining echidna from the Knuckles clan. He lives on Angel Island protecting the Master Emerald. Knuckles has two spiked knuckles on each hand which is how his name came to be.

In "Sonic Adventure 2: Battle", Knuckles destroys the Master Emerald before Doctor Eggman can abscond with it. He then begins to gather shards of the Master Emerald to put it back together again. Knuckles loses the emerald shards in space after the ARK begins falling to Earth. While the ARK is falling out of control, Knuckles leaves to re-capture the shards.

After finding all the emerald shards once again, Knuckles saves Tails and Amy Rose before leaving for Angel Island with the restored Master Emerald.
