Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the most reliable website to visit to see results of voting in British Columbia?

Answer: The Elections BC website

http://www3.elections.bc.ca is the site with the most reliable information about election results. The website also breaks down how many people voted on each day of voting. The District Electoral Office is where the candidates go to wait for voting results.
2. You are working at the British Columbia election as a Voting Clerk. What information are you allowed to give voters about the candidates?

Answer: None

Elections BC is a non-partisan office of the legislature. Employees of Elections BC are not allowed to talk about politics in the Voting Place. The only information a Voting Officer or Voting Clerk can give to a voter is how to mark their ballot correctly and to explain the procedures for voting.
3. Which one is NOT a requirement for voting in British Columbia?

Answer: Have a Where To Vote card

Voting in BC is quick and easy. If you didn't get a WTV card, or are a new registration or update, there is a simple form to fill out. Everyone is entitled to exercise their right to vote.
4. After the Voting Place closes the ballots are counted. Who counts them?

Answer: The Voting Officer and Voting Clerk who conducted voting for that station

The Voting Officer and Voting Clerk's jobs do not stop when all the voters leave. There is a very specific procedure for counting ballots. Ballots are counted into groups of 25 for each candidate and double checked at every 25. A judicial recount is called if 2 candidates receive the same number of votes, or if there is lass than 0.2% separating two candidates.
5. You want to vote in the Advance Voting in British Columbia and you meet all the requirements, but you are not on the Voters List. What now?

Answer: You go to the Certificate Writer with your ID and register on the spot

It is the Certificate Writer's job to register or update voters. Certificate Writers are only used in Advance Voting. Every voting station has a complete and up-to-date list of every eligible registered person in the province, and the CW can add new names to that list.
6. It's election day in British Columbia. You are on the voters list and have received your Where To Vote card in the mail. Which of the following options most accurately describes where you can cast your vote?

Answer: At any voting place in BC

If you cast your vote out of your Electoral Area it is not counted as a live vote, although it will be counted in the final count, 13 days after General Election Day.
7. When you first walk into a Voting Place in British Columbia you are greeted by someone asking to see your "Where To Vote" card and some identification. What is the title of this job?

Answer: Information Officer

The IO is the first person a voter meets. The IO checks the voter's "Where To Vote" card and ID and directs them to the correct Voting Station. If you don't have the proper ID or are voting out of area they will send you to the appropriate tables. They can also physically assist any voter that needs help.
8. You want to vote in British Columbia but you had your wallet stolen yesterday. What do you need to do in order to vote?

Answer: Bring in someone who knows you and lives in your Electoral District to vouch for you

Vouching is a quick and easy process. Each person can vouch for one other who lives in their Electoral District, and a person who is vouched for may not vouch for another. A voucher may be a family member, a friend or even a boss.
9. It is my son's first time voting and I want to take a picture with my mobile phone to commemorate this momentous event. Will I be allowed to?

Answer: No, no photos allowed within the Voting Place

Absolutely no photography of any kind is allowed within a Voting Place. When you see the candidates voting on TV all that has been set up in advance with any others in the Voting Place at the time signing a waiver for publication. You are entitled to cast your vote in secret without pressure from outside parties.
10. You've have come in to a Voting Place to cast your ballot and notice someone sitting behind the Voting Clerk watching everything and taking notes. This person is a Scrutineer. A Scrutineer checks to make sure all procedures are scrupulously followed. All Scrutineers must be what?

Answer: A registered member of a political party

Scrutineers are members of a political party and they make sure all the rules are followed. They are also allowed to write down the names of people who have voted so their party can check that all their members have voted. Scrutineers are not allowed to talk to the public, nor interfere in any way with the voting process.
