Water Into Wine Trivia Quiz

I am not expecting miracles here, but one of the two words in each question can be rearranged and its resultant new word will have the meaning of the other word. For example: Performance cat: An anagram of cat is "act", which is also a performance.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Anagram one of the following two words to create a new word that means the other word. Women sailed

Answer: Ladies

The word that needed to be changed was sailed.

Other words that can arise from an anagram of sailed are aisled, deasil, ideals. The interesting word in that lot is deasil which is an old Scottish word meaning in the direction of the sun or clockwise.
2. Anagram one of the following two words to create a new word that means the other word. Main stream

Answer: Master

Once again it is the second word that needed to be changed around.

Main can be defined as chief in importance. Examples are principal, foremost and leading. Master sits comfortably in this lot in the same vein as "master" bedroom or "main" bedroom.
3. Anagram one of the following two words to create a new word that means the other word. Pilots remain

Answer: Airmen

Once again we have stayed with the second word needing to be altered.

An anagram of remain can cover two parts of the armed forces. Not only can it be altered to read airmen but also marine.
4. Anagram one of the following two words to create a new word that means the other word. Staple vapid

Answer: Pastel

For a change, we changed the first word.

Vapid means offering little that is stimulating. It can also be said to be wishy-washy, pallid or uninspiring. If talking colours then pastel or palest colours work with this.

Staple can provide a number of anagrams. Apart from the two above it can also be changed to palets, petals, plates, pleats, septal and tepals
5. Anagram one of the following two words to create a new word that means the other word. Generates children

Answer: Teenagers

This time we changed the first word to get to teenagers.

A child is defined by the Webster College Dictionary (2010) as "a person between birth and full growth", while the Collins English Dictionary (2014) leans toward "a boy or girl between birth and puberty". One more, the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language (Fifth edition - 2016) records a child as "A person who has not attained maturity or the age of legal majority". Whilst it can be debated, these would indicate that it is possible for a teenager to fit within the parameters of children.
6. Anagram one of the following two words to create a new word that means the other word. Penal aircraft

Answer: Plane

The first word, yes again, needed to be changed.

This is an adopted quiz and the original author had the word "alpen", which I had to look up the meaning of... it means "pertaining to the alps". That's when I smacked my forehead and went "Duh". Realizing that plane could also anagram as penal, I couldn't resist changing it. With penal meaning pertaining to punishment of a crime, the term "penal aircraft" conjured images "Con Air", the 1997 action thriller directed by Simon West and starring Nicolas Cage, John Cusack and John Malkovich in which prisoners hi-jack an aircraft.
7. Anagram one of the following two words to create a new word that means the other word. Boring outside

Answer: Tedious

OK, changing the first word three times in a row was getting tedious, so this time we change the second word again.

Something that is tedious (or boring) is something that is tiresome. This can be either by the length of time it is taking, the slow rate that it is developing at or, the subject matter is simply dull and uninteresting. It can be monotonous, it can be wordy, it can be long, it can cause fatigue... and if I keep going I am likely to bore you to tears.
8. Anagram one of the following two words to create a new word that means the other word. Castro performers

Answer: Actors

Change the first word to get the correct answer.

Actors/Castro... that combination made me wince. It reminded me of the term "castrato". A castrato, in classical music, is a male singing voice that is similar to that of a soprano, mezzo-soprano, or contralto. The way they, generally, achieve this is to have the boys castrated before they reached puberty. In this way their larynx would not transform in the normal way that puberty brings and their vocal ranges would develop in a unique way as they grew into adulthood.
9. Anagram one of the following two words to create a new word that means the other word. Enemy country

Answer: Yemen

Yes, the first word again had to be changed.

Sana'a is the capital city of Yemen, a country in Western Asia and it sits on the south end of the Arabian Peninsula. Once called South Arabia, its official title is the Republic of Yemen. Despite the fact that it is a member of the Arab League, it is one of the least developed countries in the region, has one of the highest number of people in need of humanitarian aid and sits high on the Fragile State Index.
10. Anagram one of the following two words to create a new word that means the other word. Laud Persia

Answer: Praise

Thank the heavens, something different, we needed to change the second word.

Did that sound like praise... it was meant to. Praise is an expression of admiration or respect. In religion it is an expression of gratitude toward a deity. But, from me, it's congratulations to you for completing this quiz and I hope you did well. Now, all I can ask, is that you extend that praise and rate this quiz well.
