His career began in 1985 with the AAA Chicago Cubs and in 1988 he became a professional ball player, playing for the Major League Baseball in 1988 with the Chicago Cubs. He played first base and wore jersey number 17. Up until 2000, he spent most of his career with the Chicago Cubs. In his 16 year career, he won four Golden Glove Awards and had approximately 2500 hits and over 500 doubles. He also was one of the most consistent and even tempered players. He finished his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks, who won the World Series in 2001 and he retired in 2003. Grace became a commentator for the Arizona Diamondbacks and has hinted he would like to coach a team. Grace has always been one of my favorite players and I was saddened when he left the Chicago Cubs. My personal opinion was that he was a very valued member of the team and rather taken for granted. I miss him playing baseball but it's nice seeing him still around discussing his favorite topic: baseball.
