Casino Craps Trivia Questions

1. The most common bet on a craps table is the "Pass Line" bet. If a point is already established and you want to play a "Pass Line" bet, it is not advisable to do so. Instead you can put your chips in the area for the identical bet, marked as what?

From Quiz
Various Bets in Casino Craps

Answer: Come

The "Come Bet" is exactly the same as the "Pass Line". It wins when a 7 or 11 is rolled, and loses when a 2,3,or 12 is rolled, and plays out the point in other cases. You can take odds on a "Come Bet" exactly as you would on a Pass bet. Come bets are for players who enjoy the action of "place bets" without the higher house edge.

2. What is the main activity partaken in, by players at a craps table?

From Quiz Basics of Casino Craps

Answer: Betting on rolls of the dice

The complexity of betting is what confuses most people.

3. How many casino personnel are stationed at a standard-size table? (Hint: include the Boxman-the casino employee behind the table sitting down-in your count.)

From Quiz Beginner's Craps

Answer: 4

A normal crew working at the table consists of a Stickman (uses a hooked stick to retrieve the thrown dice and push them to the player who is throwing the dice), a Boxman (seated behind the table, counts out a new player's money and pushes it through a slot in the table), and two Dealers standing at both ends of the table (place bets in correct position and pay off players who win). A fifth person is on break. The two Dealers, the Stickman, and the person on break rotate positions, usually every 20 minutes.

4. How many people run a craps table?

From Quiz Basics of Casino Craps

Answer: Four

The dealer in the middle (the croupier) calls the dice and handles them with a stick. Dealers at opposite ends of the table handle betting and payouts. The "box man" stands/sits across from the croupier, oversees all betting, and handles the bulk of the house's money.

5. How many dice are thrown?

From Quiz Beginner's Craps

Answer: 2

Tossing the dice passes around to all the players at the table in a clockwise rotation. When it's your turn to be the "shooter" (person throwing the dice), the Stickman will push several dice (usually five) to you. Pick up any two of them. Your objective should be to bounce them off the far table wall.

6. Place a die on a flat surface. Look at the number showing on top. Now turn the die upside down. The first number plus this second number will always equal what total?

From Quiz Basics of Casino Craps

Answer: 7

Seven is the most loved and feared number on a craps table. There are more statistical possibilites of seven being rolled than any other number.

7. Although it is not recommended to "hedge" one's bets (play two opposite sides while mistakenly believing it will reduce the house edge), some players enjoy doing this. Which bet is ideal to hedge with a "Pass Line" bet on the come-out?

From Quiz Various Bets in Casino Craps

Answer: Any Craps

The only numbers that lose a "Pass Line" bet on a come-out roll are 2,3,or 12, which are referred to as craps. Betting "Any Craps" pays 7-1 and will therefore make up for the losses on the "Pass Line". There are various other forms of hedging bets which players mistakenly believe will beat the casino in the long run, but these actually just increase the house's income by combining the house edge of both bets.

8. A bet on the pass line has what house edge? (Hint: This is one of the best bets in the casino.)

From Quiz Beginner's Craps

Answer: 1.4%

The house edge for the pass line bet is 1.4%, which makes it one of the best bets in the casino. A "free odds" bet can reduce this house edge even further, but a larger bankroll to start with is recommended (to weather losing streaks, since more of your money is at risk doing this).

9. The fan favourites are the "Hard Ways". When making this bet, you wager that your number will be made the "hard way (2-2)" before a 7 or its "easy way" (3-1,1-3)" is rolled. How many "Hard Ways" are available?

From Quiz Various Bets in Casino Craps

Answer: Four

"Hard Way" bets can only be even numbered points. Therefore, they are 4,6,8, and 10. The 2 and the 12 have no "easy way" equivalents and therefore are not included. The 4 and the 10 pay 7-1 or 8-1 (depending on the casino) when the bet is won, while the 6 and the 8 pay 9-1 or 10-1. This is because there are 4 easy ways to roll a 6 or 8, and only 2 to roll a 4 or 10.

10. The Casino also offers a bet, which is the perfect opposite of the "Pass Line" bet, but for one modification. What is this bet called?

From Quiz Various Bets in Casino Craps

Answer: Don't Pass

The "Don't Pass" bet and its faithful friend "Don't Come" bet against the shooter; win when craps are rolled on the come out and lose with a 7 or 11. However, they push (tie) when a 12 is rolled (in some casinos, this is a 2). This push keeps the edge in the house's favour no matter which side you bet. The "Don't Pass" has a slightly lower house edge than the "Pass Line", but is played less frequently due to the craps "taboo" of being against the table.

11. What number is sometimes called a "yo"? (Hint: This name is used to avoid confusion with a verbal call of "seven.")

From Quiz Beginner's Craps

Answer: 11

If the shooter rolls an 11 ("yo") or a 7 while the black side of the marker puck is up, your pass line bet wins (2 to 1 times). If the white side of the marker puck is up, your pass line bet is not affected by a yo, (but loses if a 7 is thrown).

12. What number(s) are called "craps"?

From Quiz Beginner's Craps

Answer: any of these numbers

If the shooter rolls any of the craps numbers while the black side of the marker puck is up, you lose your pass line bet. If the white side of the marker puck is up, your pass line bet is not affected.

13. If the marker puck has the white side up and is positioned on the number 5 on the felt, your pass line bet wins if what number is rolled?

From Quiz Beginner's Craps

Answer: 5

If you want to learn more about craps these two paperbacks for beginners are very helpful: "The Basics of Winning Craps" by J. Edward Allen and "Craps - Playing to Win" by Tony Korfman (search for both of these on the Internet). Another source is your local public library.

14. How many "come" numbers are on the table?

From Quiz Basics of Casino Craps

Answer: 6

The come numbers are: 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10. Place a bet on the word "come". Upon the next roll, any come number thrown will become your "come-point". All come bets remain on the table until you win or until 7 is rolled.

15. What is the only number that clears the table of all bets and ends the round?

From Quiz Basics of Casino Craps

Answer: 7

"Sevens out!" is not a pretty phrase (for some players). The dice are then passed to the next shooter (to the left of the previous shooter) and the process begins again.
