Entertainment Whodunits Trivia Questions

1. "Look at this; we found this piece of green cloth at the crime scene. You are known for wearing green. Care to explain, Link?" From which video game series does Link, archer extraordinaire, appear?

From Quiz
Archery Done It

Answer: The Legend of Zelda

Link is the main protagonist of the "Legend of Zelda" series. He first appeared in 1986 when the first "Legend of Zelda" game was released. Over several years, as graphics changed, so did Link's appearance. He also miraculously seemed to have aged to a teenager in later games. This is odd, because he appears much older in games that occur earlier in the "Legend of Zelda" timeline. Could Link have killed Mr. Boddy?

2. In Victor Hugo's "Les Miserables" the principal character's life becomes a nightmare as a result of a petty theft. What was stolen?

From Quiz A Variety of Crimes

Answer: Bread

A loaf of bread starts the ball rolling - and things are never the same.

3. The movie 'Laura' stars Dana Andrews and Gene Tierney. The supporting cast also includes this actor, who is better known for his roles in a different genre.

He plays one of the suspects. Good movie.

4. "Anatomy of A Murder" deals (obviously) with murder, but it also deals with rape (which is the supposed motive for the murder). Who was the director?

From Quiz A Variety of Crimes

Answer: Otto Preminger

James Stewart starred. The supporting cast included George C. Scott, Lee Remick and Ben Gazzara.

5. "Hawkeye, we know it was you who shot Mr. Boddy with your arrow. You left your belt buckle at the crime scene." Hawkeye, portrayed by Jeremy Renner, appeared in 2012's "The Avengers". In which other movie did he make a cameo appearance?

From Quiz Archery Done It

Answer: Thor

Hawkeye wears purple garb in the comics, but in both "Thor" (2011) and "The Avengers" (2012), Hawkeye is in black attire. Renner said the reason for his outfit looking so different was so that it seemed more "reality-based" than fictional. It worked, too; in the films, Hawkeye appeared to be more like a regular guy with an amazing archery ability that a cheesy superhero wearing spandex. Mr. Boddy is dead; was it by Hawkeye?

6. "Seven Days in May" deals with an attempted government coup. Who is the treasonous ringleader?

From Quiz A Variety of Crimes

Answer: Burt Lancaster

Based on the novel by Fletcher Knebel and Charles Bailey Knebel (and featuring a good Rod Serling screenplay), Lancaster plays a rogue general who is unhappy with the performance of the President (Fredric March). Kirk Douglas saves the day. Martin Balsam has a supporting role.

7. Edgar Allan Poe pioneered the detective story. In 'Murders in the Rue Morgue, who was the culprit?

Beware of apes. (If he killed in anger, would it be 'The Apes of Wrath'?)

8. In "A Place in the Sun", Montgomery Clift is blackmailed by another woman. Who plays her?

From Quiz A Variety of Crimes

Based on Theodore Dreiser's ""An American Tragedy" (which was, in turn, based on a true story), Montgomery Clift marries Shelley Winters, but prefers Liz Taylor.

9. Paul Newman played a detective in 'Harper'. Who played his ex-wife?

From Quiz Classic 'Whodunits'

Good movie. Harris was in it, but not as the ex-wife. Rush starred with Newman in 'Hombre' and 'Young Philadelphians'. Woodward, of course, is his wife.

10. "The Collector" is a fine John Fowles novel about a kidnapping. What was the motive for the crime?

From Quiz A Variety of Crimes

11. There actually was a play entitled (in America) 'Whodunnit'. Who was the author?

From Quiz Classic 'Whodunits'

Answer: Anthony Shaffer

Shaffer never really repeated the giant success that he had with 'Sleuth', a wonderfully entertaining play (that didn't work nearly as well as a movie). Levin did 'Deathtrap': it was a very successful play - but not a particularly good one. Peter Shaffer gave us 'Equus', 'Amadeus', 'Black Comedy' and other excellent plays.

12. "Legolas, admit it, you killed Mr. Boddy. Witnesses who saw the silhouette claimed to have seen pointy ears. It must have been you who killed him." Legolas is from "Lord of the Rings", but what kind of creature is he?

Legolas first appeared in J. R. R. Tolkien's "The Fall of Gandolin" (1917). Though he appears in many of Tolkien's stories, he is most noted as being a character from the "Lord of the Rings" series. From Quiz Classic 'Whodunits'

Answer: 'Ten Little Indians'

The movie version with Hugh O'Brian and Shirley Eaton had this gimmicky device. There have been several versions of the movie: some have {worked;} some haven't. 'Mousetrap' is her classic mystery play. As for 'Orient', it's well-known, but not that good.

Is it Pit we should be accusing of murder?
