Rey Mysterio won the match, but on "SmackDown!", Eddie decided to reveal that Rey wasn't the actual father after not keeping his word, and told Dominick that he was his real father. Rey Mysterio made the challenge for a Ladder Match at "SummerSlam", in which the winner would gain full custody of Dominick.

"Summerslam" is one of WWE's most important Pay Per Views, known for a long time as one of the "Big Four" events (along with "Royal Rumble", "Wrestlemania", and "Survivor Series"). The success of the latter three Pay Per Views pushed McMahon to keep coming up with new and exciting events. The inaugural "Summerslam" took place on August 29, 1988 in New York City's Madison Square Garden. The first match of "Summerslam" 1988 was a tag-team match between the British Bulldogs and Fabulous Rougeaus, which ended in a draw. It was followed by a short singles match where Bad News Brown defeated Ken Patera. Bad News Brown, who first appeared in WWE programming in 1978 when the promotion was still known as WWWF, was a professional judoka before wrestling. He even won two gold medals in the Pan American Games of 1967 and 1975.

The 1993 "Royal Rumble" took place in Sacramento, California on January 24. Given that neither championship in dispute (the WWF Intercontinental Championship and the WWF Championship) exchanged hands, the crowd was hoping to see an exciting main event. Unfortunately for them, many critics believe the signature match was underwhelming. The match ended after Savage hit his Flying Elbow Drop but inexplicably went for a meaningless pin. Yokozuna then threw him over the top rope, winning a WWF Championship match at that year's "Wrestlemania". Randy "Macho Man" Savage was one of WWE's most beloved superstars. He was married to his on-screen manager and partner, Miss Elizabeth, between 1984 and 1992 and passed away in 2011. This was perhaps the closest Savage ever was to winning the "Royal Rumble" match, with other highlight-worthy appearances in 1989 and 1994.
