The Oresund Strait links the Baltic Sea to the Atlantic Ocean and is, at its narrowest point, only around two and half miles (four kilometres) wide. The strait might be better known since the building of a link across, and under, it via the Oresund Bridge, which opened in 2000 and has featured in television programmes such as 'The Bridge' (2011). The crossing is around seven and a half miles (12 kilometres) in total, consisting of the bridge, which ends at a man made island called Peberholm where traffic (rail and road) then travels through a tunnel to complete the journey.
