After Jack passed away in 1980, the stadium was renamed Jack Murphy Stadium. Nowadays, commercial interests are important so businesses can purchase the naming rights for the stadium. Qualcomm Corporation bought the naming rights for twenty years in 1997. Jack's memory lives on though as the site the stadium sits on is now called Jack Murphy Field.
