The Zubir is a pagan symbol of the Odin-like forest god; Perun is one of two main gods of Kay's Persia. The Jaddite faith is the dominant religion of the Sarantine world and an equivalent of Christianity.

The major person in Paul's background seems to be Rachel; his parents are not mentioned. Rakoth takes the shape of James Lowell at first when he rapes Jennifer, we are told about how Kim's parents met when she is with Ysanne, and Dave's issues with his father Josef are a huge part of his character. Kevin's father is a major part of his life and the two have a very close relationship.
