2. What unusual event happened outside of the Metropolitan Museum?

From Quiz Repairman Jack in "All the Rage"

Answer: A riot broke out.

A group of well-dressed men began harassing people and starting fights. One of them tried to throw Vicky off of the steps and kill her. The men who started the riot had been at a school reunion, and had been drinking the punch, which was spiked with a new drug called Berzerk.

3. What words in Melanie's message to her husband help Jack decide to take on the case?

From Quiz Repairman Jack in "Conspiracies"

Answer: "Only Repairman Jack can find me. Only he will understand."

Jack doesn't want to take on a missing persons case. That isn't his usual type of job, and he tells Melanie's husband, Lew Ehler, that he should go to the police. However, Jack is really intrigued by Melanie's words, and he wants to know why Melanie would say them. He doesn't know Melanie, and he's never heard of her.

4. At the beginning of the book, what happens to Alicia's lawyer?

From Quiz Repairman Jack in "Legacies"

Answer: He died when his car exploded.

Alicia was on her way to meet with her lawyer, Leo Weinstein. After she got out of the cab, Leo went by in a silver Lexus and honked his horn at her. He told her he was just going to park the car and he'd be right with her. As Alicia got to the front door of Leo's office building, there was a huge explosion behind her. The explosion was so big that it broke windows in buildings all up and down the street.

5. What item did Kusum Bahkti want Jack to retrieve for him?

From Quiz Repairman Jack in "The Tomb"

Answer: a necklace

Kusum Bahkti told Jack that his grandmother had been mugged and was dying. The mugger had stolen a necklace that was very important to her, and Bahkti wanted her to have it back before she died.

6. How does Jack do his "fix-it" jobs?

From Quiz Repairman Jack - Character Background

Answer: He mainly works alone.

Although Jack may get help with his preparations for his jobs, such as getting weapons from Abe or getting new ID cards made up for bogus identities, Jack prefers to work alone. That way, he doesn't have to worry about someone else getting hurt. Also, if no one else is with him, he can keep all of his attention on the job at hand, thereby keeping himself safer. Jack doesn't rely on modern technology, either, believing that too much could go wrong, although he does maintain a web site through which customers can contact him.

7. Who was Jack surprised to find was his new client?

From Quiz Repairman Jack in "Hosts"

Answer: his sister

Jack was amazed to see that his new client was Kate, his sister whom he hadn't seen in 15 years. He was very happy to see her, but she wasn't quite as happy to see him. She had contacted Repairman Jack (not knowing that he was her brother) to help her find out what was going on with her partner, Jeanette. However, Kate was reluctant to have Jack help her, because she was afraid he'd find out that she was gay.

8. What was causing so many people in the city to act strangely?

From Quiz Repairman Jack in "All the Rage"

A street drug called Berzerk was bringing out violent tendencies in everyone who took it. Milos Dragovic was testing out this drug, the source of which was obtained for him by Dr. Monnet.

9. In Lew's basement, the scars on Jack's chest begin to itch. What weird thing does Jack see in the basement of Lew's house?

From Quiz Repairman Jack in "Conspiracies"

Answer: a rope ladder that disappears into concrete

The weird thing, besides the obvious part about the ladder disappearing into the concrete, is that although the rope looks new, the concrete appears to be the original concrete of the basement floor. Jack doesn't know it at the time, but the reason his scars itch near that area is because the area is a gateway for the "Otherness". In first book of the "Repairman Jack" series, "The Tomb", creatures from the "Otherness" called rakosh give Jack those scars while he is trying to rescue Vicky. The term "Otherness" is first spoken in this book, by members of SESOUP. Although Jack doesn't see deformed children in the basement (and he definitely doesn't see a grave or a miniature elephant), there are two characters in this book who were born with deformities. Those characters are Melanie and Frayne Canfield.

10. Alicia (Dr. Clayton) was a pediatrician. At what kind of medical facility was she the acting director?

From Quiz Repairman Jack in "Legacies"

Answer: facility for crack babies and children with AIDS

Alicia was the acting director for the Center for Children with AIDS. The director was at home, having developed problems in her third trimester of pregnancy. The assistant director had just left to take a position at another facility. The other pediatrician on staff had a wife and new baby, so he couldn't take on the role of acting director. The staff of the Center cared for children who were born HIV positive, those who had AIDS, and those were born addicted to crack or heroin. Some of those children had been abandoned, so they actually lived at the Center.

11. What happened to Kusum Bahkti's grandmother when the necklace was given back to her?

From Quiz Repairman Jack in "The Tomb"

Answer: She regained her youth.

Once the necklace was returned, Kusum Bahkti's grandmother regained her youth, and once again became the beautiful sister of Kusum. Since removing the necklace caused Kusum's sister, Kolabati, to age rapidly, the story that she was his grandmother rather than his sister had been concocted.

12. Where does Dr. Monnet obtain the source of the chemicals with which he was producing drugs for Miles Dragovic?

From Quiz Repairman Jack in "All the Rage"

Answer: the Ozymandias Prather Oddity Emporium

Dr. Monnet had a deal with the owner of the Emporium. Each month, Dr. Monnet took blood from one of the creatures in the Emporium, and this blood contained the source for the chemical which Dr. Monnet called Loki. Every twenty-nine days, the chemical became inert, which is why Dr. Monnet had to obtain a new sample every month. His attempts to stabilize the chemical failed, because each time the chemical became inert, all records of it changed as well, including electronic and hard copies.

13. For what group is the term SESOUP an acronym?

14. What unthinkable event happened when Jack caught up with the guy who stole the Christmas gifts?

From Quiz Repairman Jack in "Legacies"

Answer: Santa was shot.

Someone had stolen all of the Christmas gifts which had been donated for the children. Jack, wearing a Santa Claus suit, found the thief who was sitting in a panel truck waiting for a buyer to show up. Jack got the thief's attention, then said, "So you're the one who stole the toys I was putting aside for the AIDS babies! No one steals Santa's toys and gets away with it." The thief shot Jack, but Jack was wearing a bulletproof vest under the Santa Claus suit. Jack then beat up the thief, tied him to the bumper of the truck, then drove the truck to the Center where he left the truck full of gifts, along with the thief, for the police to find.

From Quiz Repairman Jack in "The Tomb"

16. What was the very first "fix-it" job that Jack performed?

From Quiz Repairman Jack - Character Background

Answer: He stopped local kids from ruining his neighbour's lawn.

When Jack was seventeen, his neighbour, Mr. Canelli, had a beautiful yard, until some of the local teenagers ruined it by joyriding through it. Each time it happened, Mr. Canelli would fix it up. As a last resort, Mr. Canelli put a fence around the yard, but the teenagers just broke down the fence and did even worse damage. Jack was unhappy about Mr. Canelli being victimized, so he told Mr. Canelli that he would stop them once and for all, for a fee of fifty dollars. (Jack almost never did his work for free. He considered himself to be a businessman, and felt that it was better not to get emotionally involved in his customers' situations. Of course, that part didn't always work, because Jack was much more tender-hearted than he liked most people to know.) Jack had Mr. Canelli re-plant his bushes, and Jack hid steel pipes filled with concrete behind the bushes. When the teenagers came through the yard the next time, they ended up in the hospital.

17. When Kate followed Jeanette to see what she was doing, what kind of group did she think that Jeanette had joined?

From Quiz Repairman Jack in "Hosts"

Answer: a prayer group

Kate saw a group of people sitting in chairs, holding hands, and chanting. Kate was relieved, because she thought that a prayer group was harmless, and that she and Jeanette would be able to salvage their relationship. However, Jeanette was actually part of a group that had become infected with a virus that was taking over their minds. The group was called the Unity. They could read each other's minds and even take control of those who weren't fully integrated into the Unity yet. The purpose of the Unity was to take over all of civilization, making everyone part of one entity.

18. Why does Sal Vituolo, one of Jack's clients, also hire Jack to deal with Milos Dragovich?

From Quiz Repairman Jack in "All the Rage"

Answer: His nephew was killed so he couldn't testify against Dragovich in a trial.

Sal believed that Miles Dragovich arranged to have Artie murdered, and he thought that, as the head of the family, his sister would expect him to do something to avenge the murder. Sal was afraid that if he tried to do something, Dragovich would find out and come after his family, so he hired Jack.

19. Characters in which movie starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are referred to in this book?

From Quiz Repairman Jack in "Conspiracies"

Answer: Men in Black

The "men in black" in this book are believed to be secret government agents. Many of the members at the SESOUP conference are confused about the role of the "men in black". Jack believes that they are probably on the side of the "Otherness". Only Sal Roma and Mauricio seem to be fully sure of the goal of the "men in black". The movie entitled "Men in Black", starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, was released in 1997. It was about two men belonging to a secret government agency who keep a close watch on the activities of aliens on Earth. "Space Cowboys", starring Tommy Lee Jones but not Will Smith, was released in 2000. It's about a group of people who have to save the earth from an old Russian satellite that is about to crash into the earth's atmosphere. "Independence Day", starring Will Smith but not Tommy Lee Jones, was released in 1996. It's about aliens coming to attack the earth. 20. Where was the "key" supposed to be hidden?

From Quiz Repairman Jack in "Legacies"

Answer: in the house that was left to Alicia by her father

Alicia's father had bequeathed his house to her. Her half-brother tried very hard to get possession of the house. He offered Alicia four million dollars to purchase the house. He also challenged the will and got a court order to have the house boarded up until the court case was resolved. Due to her half-brother's actions, Alicia sensed that there was some sort of mystery concerning the house. She obtained a copy of her father's will, which stated that if Alicia died before or after taking possession of the house, it would go to Greenpeace. The will also contained a message to Greenpeace which said, in part, "This house holds the key to all you wish to achieve."

21. Besides restoring health and age, what other important function did the necklaces provide?

From Quiz Repairman Jack in "The Tomb"

Answer: They made the wearers invisible to the rakoshi.

Although the necklaces didn't make the wearers invulnerable, they healed wounds quickly and slowed aging. Perhaps most importantly, they made the wearers invisible to the rakoshi, so the rakoshi wouldn't kill them.

From Quiz Repairman Jack - Character Background

Jack hunted the person down, and, pretending to want to drop stuff off of the overpass himself, he got the guy to admit what he'd done. Inside, Jack was amazed and disturbed to find Scar-lip, the rakosh which had escaped the burning ship in "The Tomb", which is the first book in the "Repairman Jack" series. Scar-face appears to be dying, but Jack is still afraid that if the rakosh were somehow able to escape, it might again go after Vicky.

25. Jack was hired to check out a man who was abusing his wife. After Jack has done the job, why doesn't the wife's brother (the one who hired Jack to do the job) want to see or hear from Jack again?

Answer: He thought that Jack killed his brother-in-law.

All Jack was going to do was watch, but when he saw Gus start beating Ceilia and not stop, Jack felt that he had to intervene. Jack pretended to be a thief, but during the course of the confrontation, Gus revealed to Ceilia that he really hated her. Jack locked Ceilia in the closet while he knocked Gus around a bit, and then he tied Gus up and broke his legs. He then opened the closet before he left the house. Ceilia was so upset at finding out that Gus hated her, that she tortured and mutilated Gus, and Gus died from blood loss. Oscar thought that Jack had tortured, mutilated, and killed Gus.

When customers come in looking for sports equipment, Abe does his best to discourage them from buying anything. Abe is an extremely overweight, Jewish man in his late fifties.
