28. What type of music did Dean, the sax player, show a liking for, much to the dismay of both Jimmy and Joey?
From Quiz The Commitments
Answer:
Jazz
During one performance, Dean (Felim Gormley) played a few bars that were definitely more jazz than soul, and Joey called him out for it. Jimmy was also upset at this straying from the band's sound. When Dean turned up for what turned out to be their final gig with what Jimmy described as a "jazz haircut", the manager (Jimmy) was not at all happy. The gig at a small club was meant to be their big break, as Joey had promised to get his "old friend", Wilson Pickett, to come and jam with the band, and there were reporters and even a record company representative in the crowd. When Pickett hadn't turned up by closing time, things spiralled out of shape, words were had and punches and kicks thrown, and everyone quit the band. As Jimmy walked away, a car stopped to ask directions to the club, and when Jimmy told him it was closed, the driver asked Mr Pickett if he wanted to go back to the hotel.
