Denzel Washington
Washington, born on December 28th, 1954 in Mount Vernon, New York was cast as John Quincy Archibald. John and his wife, Denise, had financial problems so he looked in the newspaper for a second job. Their son, Mike, collapsed one day while he played baseball and John and Denise rushed him to the hospital. They found out that Mike would need a heart transplant or he was going to die. Since John's insurance did not cover transplant surgeries, he had to come up with a large sum of money in order to get Mike's name on the donor recipient list. John purchased a gun and hold the hospital hostage until his son would get on the organ recipient list. When it appeared that no heart was available, John said he would kill himself so his heart would go to Mike. However, a heart was brought to the hospital before John could go through with his plan and Mike's doctor, Dr. Raymond Turner, performed the life saving operation. John was arrested and convicted of kidnapping and false imprisonment. Washington starred in the films, "American Gangster", "Training Day" and "He Got Game". In 1990, Washington won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film, "Glory". Other Oscar nominees for Best Supporting Actor that year were Marlon Brando for "A Dry White Season", Martin Landau for "Crimes and Misdemeanors", Danny Aiello for "Do the Right Thing" and Dan Aykroyd for "Driving Miss Daisy".
