"The Warriors", which was published in 1965, was Yurick's first novel, which then inspired the 1979 film of the same name. Though the novel is a work of fiction, it was somewhat influenced by one of Yurick's early jobs as a social investigator for the New York City welfare department, a position he held until the early years of the 1960s.
