Samuel L. Jackson Trivia Questions

1. In which movie does Samuel appear in a kilt? Clue: In the US the film was called "Formula 51".

From Quiz
Samuel L Jackson Movies

Answer: The 51st State

Samuel takes the role of an American chemist doing a drug deal in Liverpool. His co-stars include Meatloaf, Robert Carlyle, Rhys Ifans and Emily Mortimer. Point of interest - keep watching at the end of the movie to catch sight of Mr Jackson's very fit bottom!

2. In which 2000 film did Jackson's character respond to neighborhood drug kingpin Peoples Hernandez (Jeffrey Wright), after being reminded that he was no longer a police officer, "Do you think that makes me less dangerous or more dangerous?"

From Quiz Samuel L. Jackson Movie Quotes

Answer: Shaft

The 2000 remake of the movie "Shaft" starred Jackson in the title role. The story focused on one time New York City police detective sergeant, John Shaft, who resigned from the police department and became a private investigator, after a judge released a killer on bail two years after the crime and recapture by Shaft. Shaft found himself first searching for, then protecting, the only eye witness to the brutal murder. During his quest to locate the witness, Shaft was often assisted by his former police partner, Detective Carmen Vasquez, who was played by former Miss America, Vanessa Williams. The quoted line was part of a confrontation between Shaft and street savvy drug dealer Peoples Hernandez in a neighborhood coffee shop. Shaft's message was a warning to Peoples of the possible consequences of assisting the killer in the search for the missing witness. This updated film also linked elements from the original "Shaft" movies and television series. Appearing in a cameo role as Shaft's uncle was Richard Roundtree, who originated the role of suave, street wise private detective, John Shaft, playing the role both in the movies and in a short-lived television series. The movie also included the soulful music of composer/singer Isaac Hayes, who received a Grammy Award for the "Theme from Shaft" soundtrack in 1971. Also featured in the film are Christian Bale, Busta Rhymes, Dan Hedaya, and Toni Collette.

3. In 2000, Samuel reprised a role made famous in the 60s and 70s by another famous black actor. What is the name of the character - which also happens to be the name of the movie too?

From Quiz Samuel L Jackson Movies

Answer: Shaft & John Shaft

Richard Rowntree was the original John Shaft in the groundbreaking movie and TV series. This movie is hardly groundbreaking, but is good escapism and Samuel is in his usual wisecracking form. Richard Roundtree is in there too!

4. In which film did Neville Flynn, played by Samuel L. Jackson, ask his co-star, "What was the first thing I ever said to you?"

From Quiz Samuel L. Jackson Movie Quotes

Answer: Snakes on a Plane

The overall premise of this 2006 thriller-action film was contained in the movie title. FBI Special Agent Neville Flynn, played by Jackson, was charged with safely transporting government witness Sean Jones (Nathan Phillips) from Honolulu, Hawaii to Los Angeles, California, after he inadvertently witnessed the brutal murder of a federal prosecutor in Hawaii by a high profile drug czar. During Flynn's first encounters and subsequent rescue of Jones from a murder attempt ordered by mobster Eddie Kim (Byron Lawson), Flynn's first words to a frightened Jones were, "I'm not going to let anything happen to you." Kim's plan to prevent Jones from reaching Los Angeles and testifying against him involved the loading of the plane with a wide assortment of deadly poisonous snakes that would be released while the plane was in flight. Flynn soon found himself in a life and death battle to eradicate the slithering serpents and prevent them from killing the crew of the plane, which would cause the aircraft to crash. Also featured in this film were Julianna Margulies, Flex Alexander, and Keenan Thompson.

5. Samuel was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar in this violent Bible-bashing role. What film was it?

From Quiz Samuel L Jackson Movies

Answer: Pulp Fiction

Samuel plays Jules in 'Pulp Fiction'. He plays opposite John Travolta's Vincent Vega as 2 very violent and carefree hitmen. This was the film that started the ball really rolling for Samuel and resurrected John Travolta's career overnight. I've just realised whilst writing this quiz that Samuel is making a habit of starring in films with Bruce Willis!

6. "They only roll in John Woo movies, not in real life" was a line spoken by Samuel L. Jackson's character in which action movie?

From Quiz Samuel L. Jackson Movie Quotes

Answer: S.W.A.T.

Jackson starred in this 2003 action-packed film as LAPD Sergeant Dan "Hondo" Harrelson. Hondo, a past veteran of S.W.A.T., was asked to return to the unit by the chief of police and assigned to recruit and train a new "element" for LAPD's elite tactical crime fighting unit. Training for S.W.A.T. included the officers competing on an obstacle course/firing range. In one training exercise, Hondo was paired with fellow S.W.A.T. officer T.J. McCabe (Josh Charles), with the objective of approaching several armed suspects and the delivery of deadly fire power. When the exercise started, both officers approached the targets, simulating combat conditions, with McCabe diving and rolling on the ground at one point to diminish his target mass and to take cover. Hondo instead elected the direct approach, walking directly towards the target while firing his weapon. At the conclusion of the exercise, as both men awaited announcement of their scores, McCabe asked Hondo whether or not he performed a roll maneuver (on the ground) to avoid the simulated gunfire. Hondo responded to McCabe's inquiry with the quote. "S.W.A.T." also starred Colin Farrell, Michelle Rodriguez, Jeremy Renner, and rap music icon, James Todd Smith, better known as L.L. Cool J. S.W.A.T. is an acronym for "Special Weapons And Tactics".

7. In which film does Samuel play a man with a God-like name who forms an alliance with a man on the wrong end of a game of 'Simon Says'?

From Quiz Samuel L Jackson Movies

Answer: Die Hard with a Vengeance

Samuel plays Zeus Carver and he decides to help John McClane (Bruce Willis) save New York from the mad and evil genius Simon (played by Jeremy Irons). This was the first movie in which Samuel caught my eye - and my sense of humour.

8. In which film did Samuel L. Jackson, in the character of Terry Childers, proclaim to U.S.M.C. Major Mark Biggs, "I will not sit by and watch another marine die just to live by those... rules?"

From Quiz Samuel L. Jackson Movie Quotes

Answer: Rules of Engagement

Jackson teamed with Tommy Lee Jones in this 2000 military action thriller. Rounding out the cast were veteran performers Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, and Blair Underwood. Col. Terry Childers was the commander of a rapid deployment detachment of U.S. Marines sent to Yemen to protect and evacuate the personnel in the U.S. Embassy, as local civilians prepared to overrun and capture the compound. As hostilities of the mob outside of the Embassy escalated, Childers, believing that he saw some of the civilians carrying lethal weapons, thus presenting an immediate threat to the welfare of his troops, ordered them to open fire into the group of advancing insurgents. This resulted in the U.S. Government bringing charges against Childers for his actions. The Government felt that Childers should be "sacrificed" in a court-martial to prevent a possible backlash to other U.S. Embassies and American citizens abroad. The volatile exchange took place in the office of Maj. Mark Biggs as he questioned Col. Terry Childers regarding the shooting incident outside of the foreign U.S. Embassy. It was the contention of Major Biggs that by following the established "Rules of Engagement", the shootings would not have occurred, and that the rules were ignored by Col. Childers during the action. At his court-martial proceedings, Childers was represented by Col. Hayes "Hodge" Hodges, played by Tommy Lee Jones. Hodge was a burnt-out, disillusioned military attorney, who ironically was himself rescued by Childers 20 years earlier during the Vietnam conflict. Guy Pearce played Major Mark Biggs, a young by-the-book military officer who wanted Childers prosecuted for the incident.

9. In which movie does Samuel star with Sandra Bullock, Kevin Spacey and Matthew McConaughey?

From Quiz Samuel L Jackson Movies

Answer: A Time To Kill

Samuel plays Carl Lee Hailey, who is accused of murdering two rednecks in a small Mississippi town. This was based on a John Grisham novel and in my mind is the best adaptation yet.

10. What is the name of the 4th film that Samuel made with Bruce Willis?

From Quiz Samuel L Jackson Movies

Answer: Unbreakable

The first film that Samuel made with Willis was 'National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon', then came 'Pulp Fiction' (although I don't think they shared screentime) the third was 'Die Hard With A Vengeance'. Lastly there is this little film in which Willis plays a man who is 'Unbreakable'. What I found unbelievable is that someone built like Samuel could be so fragile.

11. In which film did Samuel L. Jackson, in the character of Zeus Carver, loudly inform his companion, "I don't like you because you're gonna get me killed?"

From Quiz Samuel L. Jackson Movie Quotes

Answer: Die Hard: With a Vengeance

In the scene, New York City Police Lieutenant John McClane (Bruce Willis) and good Samaritan Zeus Carver (Jackson) were in a taxicab, with McClane driving erratically through Central Park, trying to reach a train station before a bomb planted in a train station was detonated by terrorists. A frightened Carver commented on McClane's sanity for his reckless style of driving. McClane lamented to Carver, "You don't like me because I'm White." Carver responded with the aforementioned line of dialogue. "Die Hard: With A Vengeance" (1995) was an action packed thriller that included Jeremy Irons, Graham Greene, Colleen Camp, Sam Phillips, and Larry Bryggman in the cast. This film was the third installment of the "Die Hard" movie series.

12. In which film did Samuel play a Colonel in the US Armed Forces who rescues an Ambassador from a sieged Embassy in the Yemen?

From Quiz Samuel L Jackson Movies

Answer: Rules of Engagement

The cast in this film is excellent. Jackson, plus Tommy Lee Jones and Ben Kingsley. The film explores the rules to be followed whilst in combat and how easy the goalposts are moved. Although Jackson is on form here, this is one of my least favourite of his films.

13. In which film did computer technician Ray Arnold (Samuel L. Jackson) caution a group of people assembled in a control room, "Okay... you asked for it. Hold on to your butts?"

From Quiz Samuel L. Jackson Movie Quotes

Answer: Jurassic Park

As things started to go awry at Jurassic Park, a group of people including Ray Arnold found themselves barricaded in the control room. The group decided that as part of their survival effort, they would have to temporarily shut down the mainframe computer that controlled the park's environment. Ray Arnold was the lead computer technician seated at the computer control panel. Faced with the prospect of shutting down the mainframe, Ray advised the group just before initiating his action, "Okay... you asked for it. Hold on to your butts." Starring with Samuel J. Jackson in this 1993 Michael Crichton science fiction thriller were Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant, Laura Dern as Dr. Ellie Sattler (a famed paleontologist and paleobotanist, respectively), Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm, a mathematician, and Richard Attenborough as John Hammond, the CEO and chief architect of the Jurassic Park complex. The film also featured a wide variety of computer-generated prehistoric beasts that first fascinated then terrified the island's guests.

14. In this film Samuel only appeared at the end. His co-stars were an ex-doctor and a beautiful singer - which film?

From Quiz Samuel L Jackson Movies

Answer: Out of Sight

At the end of this film, George Clooney is placed in the back of a prison van with Jackson, who, like the Clooney character, made a habit of breaking out of jail. This leads me to believe that there may be a sequel - I'm hoping, but I could be wrong. The ex-doctor is George Clooney who was Dr Doug Ross in 'ER' and the beautiful singer was Jennifer Lopez.

15. In this film Samuel plays a teacher who, after being stabbed, moves from a gang-ridden school in Brooklyn to a similar school on the West coast. His character was Trevor Garfield, what was the film?

From Quiz Samuel L Jackson Movies

Answer: 187

This film from 1997 was directed by Kevin Reynolds and written by Scott Yagemann, who was a teacher. 187 is police code for murder.

16. "When your friends betray you, sometimes the only people you can trust are strangers" was a line spoken by Samuel L. Jackson in the character of Danny Roman to a new acquaintance, Chris Sabian. What movie was this gritty piece of dialog from?

From Quiz Samuel L. Jackson Movie Quotes

Answer: The Negotiator

Lt. Danny Roman (Jackson) found himself falsely accused of the murder of his partner and the theft of funds from the police pension fund. To make matters worse, Roman, a trained police negotiator, must himself take hostages in the police headquarters to find the evidence that will clear his name. Roman's survival is left to a second police negotiator, Lt. Chris Sabian (Kevin Spacey) who wanted to try and resolve the situation without anyone getting hurt. Known to each other only by professional reputation, Roman and Sabian form a bond and become unlikely partner in seeking the truth. The quoted line was part of a phone conversation between Roman and Sabian, while Sabian was trying to convince Roman to release his hostages. Roman made the statement in response to Sabian's question, "What makes you think you can trust me?" The storyline for this 1998 action crime drama was loosely based on an actual pension fund scandal that occurred in the City of St. Louis in the late 1980s.

17. In this film, Samuel plays Mitch Hennessey, a private detective helping a woman with amnesia to discover her true identity. What is the film?

From Quiz Samuel L Jackson Movies

Answer: The Long Kiss Goodnight

This film was directed by Renny Harlin, who was married (at the time) to Jackson's co-star Geena Davis. Samuel has also starred in 'Deep Blue Sea' - also directed by Harlin. I love both these films.
