Who Sang This Trivia Questions

1. "One man come in the name of love One man come and go One man come he to justify One man to overthrow" Written about Martin Luther King, Jr., who sings this song?

From Quiz
U2, UB40, REM or XTC?

Answer: U2

"Pride (In the Name of Love)" is a song from the U2 album "The Unforgettable Fire". It was the first single released from the 1984 album and reached number three on the UK charts and number thirty-three in the US, being the first top forty hit in the US for the band. The backing vocals are sung by Chrissie Hynde, singer with The Pretenders, although she is listed as Chrissie Kerr as she was married to Jim Kerr (singer with Simple Minds) at the time. The lyrics "early morning, April 4" are incorrect as Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot in the evening time and U2 singer Bono will often change the lyrics to "early evening, April 4" during live performances of the song.

2. "Release Me" is Engelbert's signature song. Did Elvis make a studio recording of the song or include it on a concert album issued during his lifetime?

From Quiz The Two Kings: Engelbert and Elvis

Answer: Concert album

The world first heard Engelbert's version of the vintage 1946 song by Eddie Miller, Robert Yount and James Pebworth (under the pseudonym Dub Williams) in 1967, when his single rocketed him to international stardom. Elvis' rendition of "Release Me" is on the 1970 concert album "On Stage" .

3. Which English group recorded the song that includes the lyric: "...Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire..."?

From Quiz Great Lyrics from Classic Songs

Answer: The Beatles

The song is 'A Day in the Life', which was the final track on The Beatles' classic 'Sergeant Pepper' album. It was ranked number 28 on 'Rolling Stone' magazine's list of the "Greatest Songs of All Time". The lyric in question was written by John Lennon as part of the final verse: "I heard the news today oh boy; Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire; And though the holes were rather small, They had to count them all; Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall..."

4. This song hit a mere number 30 in the UK in 1959. Here is a line from the song: 'Piddle dee pat - I know that new love thrills me, I know that true love will be...' Can you tell me who originally sung it?

From Quiz Wait....Who Sang That?

Answer: Buddy Holly

This song is 'Heartbeat' by Buddy Holly. As I have already said, this song reached only number 30 in the UK during January 1959 - only a month before Buddy Holly sadly died. 'Heartbeat' was the last single Buddy Holly released before his fatal plane crash in Iowa; it reached only number 82 in the US. Many people have covered this song, including Tommy Roe, Bobby Vee and Cliff Richard.

5. "I've got friends in low places Where the whiskey drowns and the beer chases My blues away and I'll be OK I'm not big on social graces Think I'll step on down to the oasis Oh, I've got friends in low places" Who sings this country classic?

From Quiz Celebrate Good Times!

Answer: Garth Brooks

Garth Brooks' song "Friends in Low Places" spent a month at the top spot of the American country charts and it was the first single he released from his second album 'No Fences.' At a wedding reception, people generally do some country line dancing to the song or they gather with their friends, shout out the lyrics, and enjoy the party!

From Quiz Morrissey, Morrison or Morris On?

Answer: The Doors

No matter how many times I've heard that opening keyboard salvo, I never tire of The Doors' "Light My Fire". There have been some great cover versions (and some truly awful ones) but the original is still the best. "Light My Fire" was only a minor hit in the UK when first released in 1967 but has been re-released several times and gained its highest position of Number Seven in 1991.

8. "I tried to be perfect, but nothing was worth it. Nothing could ever be so bad..." Who is this from?

Answer: Sum 41

The members of Sum 41 are Deryck, Cone, Steve, and Dave. These lyrics are from the song "Pieces".

Remarkably, Robbie Williams' 1997 single "Angels" peaked at number four in the UK Singles Chart and reached only number 53 on the US Billboard Top 100. It was, though, voted as "the best song of the past 25 years" by the British public at the 2005 BRIT Awards. It was co-written by Williams and Guy Chambers based on a partly written original song by the uncredited Irish songwriter Ray Heffernan. The chorus of the song begins "And through it all, she offers me protection; A lot of love and affection, whether I'm right or wrong..."
