The Beatles Trivia Questions

1. According to one of the Beatles' song titles, what is all you need?

From Quiz
Help! It's A Hard Days' Night!

Answer: Love

"All You Need is Love" was recorded in 1967 and first performed on an international broadcast in which the producers visited several studios in various countries. The refrain is quite clear: "All you need is love - Love is all you need". The lyrics were written by John Lennon with the collaboration of Paul McCartney. The music starts with the first notes of the French national hymn ("La Marseillaise"), and in the ending fade-out one can recognise (among others) "In the Mood" by Glenn Miller, the English traditional "Greensleeves" and a composition by JS Bach. The Beatles had "A Little Help from Their Friends" for the broadcast: several famous musicians filled in the backing vocals. Guest artists included Mick Jagger and Keith Richards from the Rollin' Stones, Eric Clapton, Keith Moon (The Who), Marianne Faithful... While the red herrings are all important, the Beatles never recorded a song titled "All You Need Is" Luck, Family or Health.

Ringo sings lead on this classic Lennon/McCartney track. The basic track was recorded in June 1966 with special effects - like Lennon blowing bubbles through a straw, George swirling water through a bucket, submarine noises, brass band, etc. - added two weeks later. Interestingly, the loose Spanish translation is "Submarino amarillo" ... but I thought that would give it away!

15. Which Beatle used the strange pseudonym "L'Angelo Misterioso" as he contributed to the hit song "Badge" performed by Cream?

From Quiz Pseudonyms used by The Fab Four

Answer: George

George and Ringo both helped writing this tune. For this song, George used the pseudonym "L'Angelo Misterioso" loosely translated as "Mysterious Angel". George also used this pseudonym on an August 1969 Jack Bruce album titled "SONGS FOR A TAILOR", when he played guitar on the song "Never Tell Your Mother She's Out Of Tune". "Badge" first appeared on a February 1969 Cream album titled "GOODBYE", and later on a single, and several "Greatest hits" compilation albums.

16. Which Beatle was the last one to join the group?

From Quiz John, Paul, George and Ringo

Answer: Ringo

The title of the quiz gives the order in which the Beatles joined. They formed from John's band The Quarrymen. Paul joined first, introduced to John by a mutual friend. Paul brought his friend George in next. The Quarrymen eventually became the Silver Beetles, then the Beatles, adding and dropping other musicians. Finally, just as the group was getting its first recording contract, well-renowned Liverpool drummer Ringo Starr was brought in as a stronger replacement for Peter Best, and, as members of the group often said, the rest is history.

17. Who was the first drummer who played with The Beatles before Ringo Starr?

From Quiz The Beatles, The Basics

Answer: Pete Best

Pete Best was the first Beatle drummer. His tenure was interrupted when the band selected a certain Ringo Starr (also known as Richard Starkey) to play for Best. After this decision, people started picket lines outside shows saying things like "Best is best" and "Best is bingo, not Ringo". The Beatle's Producer, George Martin, at the same time picked another drummer without the band's permission. This is the reason that session drummer Andy White appears on the LP cut of the hit single "Love Me Do". Stu Sutcliffe was the original bassist of The Beatles, while Richard Starkey is Ringo Starr's real name.
