From Quiz Al Green Lyrics -- The 1970s

Answer: Sha-la-la (Makes Me Happy)

"Sha-la-la (Makes Me Happy)", my favorite Al Green song, was written by Green for a friend: the late Mary Woodson. According to the book "A Touch of Classic Soul: Singers of the Early 1970's" by Marc Taylor, Woodson poured a pot of boiling Cream of Wheat cereal (not grits) on Green after he refused her marriage proposal back in October, 1974. Distraught, she fatally shot herself afterwards. Green suffered serious second degree burns. The song, Green's eighth and final million selling single, hit # 2on the R&B chart and #7 on the Pop chart in December, 1974. By the way, the song's parent LP, "Al Green Explores Your Mind", went platinum two days after its release!
