"Glad All Over" was number one for two weeks on the UK chart in 1964. It reached number six on the US pop chart the same year. Written by Dave Clark/Mike Smith (not to be confused with "Glad All Over" by Carl Perkins). The DC5 from Tottenham, London (the Tottenham sound) were (after many personnel changes) Dave Clark (drums), Mike Smith (keyboard & lead vocals), Lenny Davidson (lead guitar), Rick Huxley (rhythm guitar) and Denny Payton (tenor & baritone sax, harmonica and guitar).

"Everybody Get Together" reached number eight on the UK chart in 1970. It did not chart in the US. After this record which was their last UK Top 10 hit, they had the same number of number one hits (1) and Top 10 hits (8) in the UK & US. The group disbanded in 1970, Dave Clark & Mike Smith formed Dave Clark & Friends which lasted until 1973. In 2003 Mike Smith was paralyzed from the waist down after a fall at his home in Spain. Despite the success of The DC5 he was in financial difficulty and various appeals were launched for his treatment, particularly by Peter Noone (Herman of Herman's Hermits). After years of treatment he was released from hospital in 2007 but died from pneumonia in February 2008, eleven days before the induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame of The Dave Clark Five. At the end his estate was worth only £66,000.
