Wind and Fire Earth Trivia Questions

1. This morning I argued with my young daughter. The title for track number one on the album is similar to a phrase that that a parent might say to a young child when in the middle of an argument (or meltdown!). What is it?

From Quiz
"Faces" by Earth, Wind and Fire

Answer: Let Me Talk

Reaching number eight on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs and number 29 on the UK singles chart, "Let Me Talk" was released as a single in 1980. It was one of the songs on this album to have a music video released. Maurice White shared writing credit for this song with five others. Whilst the alternative answers were completely made up, a quick search has revealed that these song titles do exist! Toni Braxton told us "I Don't Want To" (1997), Meghan Trainor told us "No" (2016), and Weezer told us to "Go Away" (2014). Who would have thought there was so much belligerence in the music industry?

2. Where did Earth, Wind & Fire get the name for their band?

From Quiz The Career of Earth, Wind & Fire

Answer: The astrological elements affecting the band leader's zodiac sign

Band leader and founder, Maurice White, was born on December 19th, which made him a Sagittarius. White knew his sign's main elemental influence was Fire, with minor influences of Earth and Air. He decided to do a riff on this zodiac theme, and liking the sound of "Wind" more than "Air", he came up with "Earth, Wind & Fire". (This also explains why he left out the fourth element, "Water"). The band also goes by the initials EWF.

3. Who founded Earth, Wind & Fire?

From Quiz Earth, Wind & Fire

Answer: Maurice White

Maurice White, a one-time member of the Ramsey Lewis Trio, founded the band in 1969. After a move out to L. A. from Chicago, he added his brother Verdine and several others to the lineup. Philip Bailey joined up in 1971 after the release of the group's debut album the previous year.

It came out in February 1971 in the US, to critical acclaim. EWT followed that LP with "The Need of Love", which was also well-received and had a US R&B top-40 hit, "I Think About Lovin' You".
