After a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge, City won the replay 2-1 at St Andrews in Birmingham. The final took place at Crystal Palace on 24th April 24th 1909, where a solitary goal by Sandy Turnbull won the trophy for Manchester United.

Cole was signed from Arsenal in July 1992. He played 41 league games for his 20 goals, and Newcastle United saw his obvious talent and snapped him up in March 1993. Alan Dicks took over the manager's seat at Bristol City in October, 1967. After narrowly missing promotion to Division 1 in 1975, City finished the 1975-76 season in second position and returned to the top flight after a 65 years absence. After a couple of narrow escapes from relegation, City finished season 1978-79 in a respectable 13th position. Sadly, the following season saw them return to Division Two, and Dicks left his post early in the 1980-81 season.
