Survivor: Cambodia Trivia Questions

1. This season, returning castaways were selected by which means?

From Quiz
Survivor: Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: Public vote

This season, for the first time, "Survivor" turned the choice over to the fans. In a nationwide vote, viewers cast their own votes to see twenty competitors return to the game. All players this season played only once and they ranged from the show's very first season, "Borneo", to the most recent, "Worlds Apart". At the end of the "Worlds Apart" live reunion, the players were announced and boarded a bus that would take them to the airport to fly to Cambodia to begin their "Second Chance". Reaching Siem Reap, teams were split into two tribes, Bayon and Ta Keo, named after famous temples. They gathered their supplies and headed out.

2. This season of "Survivor" had a unique method of choosing contestants. How were the contestants selected?

From Quiz Survivor Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: The fans selected contestents who had played previously but never won

Previous seasons have had returning players, sometimes mixed with newer players (Season Seasons 22, 25, 26, 27) and sometimes the whole cast were returning favourites (Season 8, 20). However, these returning players were: 1) selected by the fans, and, 2) had never won before. Producers selected a larger group of previous players. A poll involving the fans was conducted. The larger group all assembled in the audience at the previous season's Reunion. The winners were selected on-air.

3. All challenges seen this season had which notable quality?

From Quiz Survivor: Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: They were revisited from past seasons

From the get-go, castaways had an opportunity to participate in some of the most famous challenges of seasons past. The very first Immunity Challenge, for instance, ended up being the very first challenge of all of "Survivor"-- 'Quest for Fire'. As Jeff noted to the tribes, Kelly participated in this original challenge back in 2000 and lost. Taking her second chance, she lost it again. All proceeding challenges ended up being pulled from seasons past, even if the castaways who could have seen them as a second chance were gone by that time.

4. Several new twists were introduced into this, the 31st series of "Survivor". Which one of them did NOT appear for the first time in this series?

From Quiz Survivor Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: Three teams started and were quickly combined into two

At least four new features were introduced on this season of "Survivor": The vote-stealer; hidden idols "hidden" in plain sight at immunity challenges; the merger happened early with 13 left in the game; and for the first time the number of tribes increased during the game. Fishbach won the vote-stealer which took a vote from somebody else and gave him another [he choose Joe's]. (However because he was obsessed with splitting the vote, the playing of this twist at the time, was not effective). Two idols, one each, were found by Jeremy and Wentworth on immunity challenges (they also found another each, after they had been given clues to the subsequent idols). This was the first time so many contestants were involved in a merger into a single tribe. Thirteen at the merge meant this had downstream consequences, such as ten jury members. Whilst there have been three and even four starting teams, this was the first time the tribes increased after the start from two to three.

5. This season, where did castaways locate the Hidden Immunity Idols?

From Quiz Survivor: Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: At Immunity Challenges

Although castaways started looking for the Hidden Immunity Idols upon arriving at camp, this was one of the few seasons in which castaways didn't find what they were looking for. That being said, teams did have a chance to find a clue to the Hidden Immunity Idol and, in this season, the idol could be grabbed at the Immunity Challenge, usually hidden under a piece of equipment. Kelley grabbed one at the first challenge, Jeremy got another on Day 9 and a second on Day 22, and Kelley got another through a clue at a challenge on Day 27. In every case, the idol was used to successfully negate votes to save their targets.

6. Early in the series, one of the favourites left because his son was hospitalised. Who was pulled from the game?

From Quiz Survivor Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: Terry

Terry was woken in the night during play to be advised his son was hospitalised. He left the game at that point. At the reunion, he revealed his son needed a heart transplant and, after he received one three months later, became healthy again. Terry's son was one of the lucky ones that did not die waiting for an organ whilst on the transplant list.

7. On Day 7, what new tribe was created?

From Quiz Survivor: Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: Angkor

On Day 7, tribes got one of their biggest early twists. With eighteen castaways remaining, Jeff brought everyone together to drop their buffs as they would be switching tribes. That being said, it was the first time that two tribes split out into three. Ta Keo and Bayon remained as tribes (albeit with new members) but a third tribe, Angkor, was created to take the orange buff. The six castaways sorted onto Angkor had to build a new camp entirely while the others went back to their respective beaches. Buffs were drawn at random.

8. The physical nature of "Survivor" was exemplified when one the most athletic competitors the game has seen, passed out from exhaustion at a challenge. Which contestant was this?

From Quiz Survivor Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: Joe

The physicality of this season's series was ever more pronounced when Joe, as part of the challenge, balanced an object on a long pole for over 90 minutes in an immunity challenge, and passed out whilst playing. Just two were left at the time giving Keith the win. What was not apparent at the time, was that Keith was close to passing out. In the tape seen at the Reunion, Keith was seen dropping to his knees immediately after his win. The brutality of the conditions were also compounded by the weather. There were days of heavy relentless rain, putting the fire out, so no food was cooked, sapping players of heat, energy and spirit. Fishbach, in particular was badly affected.

9. Which castaway needed to be removed from the game on Day 13?

From Quiz Survivor: Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: Terry

On Night 13, shortly after Tribal Council, the Ta Keo tribe was visited by Jeff who, bearing bad news, had to tell Terry that his son had to be taken to the hospital. The doctor believed that Terry needed to return home considering the circumstances and, without hesitating, he pulled himself from the game. The other tribes were informed of his departure the following morning when the tribes were reunited. The circumstances in the United States led Terry's son to require a heart transplant; he received it a couple months after the filming of the show.

10. In a season that features many blindsides, none was more surprising when Andrew Savage was ousted with twelve remaining players. How many votes did he receive at Tribal Council to be voted out?

From Quiz Survivor Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: Two

There were twelve votes. The majority alliance voted for Kelley Wentworth who received nine consecutive votes. However these did not count as Wentworth surprised the larger bloc by playing an idol. The next two votes were for Savage who no doubt received votes from the bottom three of Wentworth, Ciera and Abi. The twelfth vote was not revealed at tribal council.

11. How many tribes resulted from the Tribal Switch on Day 14?

From Quiz Survivor: Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: Two

Day 14, with fourteen castaways remaining in the game, the tribes were shuffled one more time, this time recombining the competitors onto the original two tribes, Ta Keo and Bayon, and removing the added tribe, Angkor, dissolving it from the game. Tribes returned to the original beaches which, fairly, was a likely good choice since Angkor beach proved to be nearly inhospitable in terms of survivability. Buffs were drawn at random and teams proceeded to compete in their very next Reward Challenge then and there.

12. Very late in the game, Kimmi made a bold and audacious move (known as a Big Move in "Survivor" parlance), not unknown in "Survivor" but unexpected from her nonetheless: What did she do?

From Quiz Survivor Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: She turned on her super-strong alliance of four to vote one of them out

Kimmi was in a very strong alliance with Jeremy, Tash, and Spencer, though she thought she was at the bottom of the four. She then approached Wentworth and Keith to form a bloc to vote out Jeremy or Spencer depending on who won immunity next. Spencer and Tash got wind of the scheme and Kimmi paid the price, ultimately by being the next one voted off.

13. The merge, this season, occurred on Day 17. How many castaways joined together for this event?

From Quiz Survivor: Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: Thirteen

Interestingly, this was the first time in "Survivor" history that saw this many castaways come together to commence individual games. Ta Keo gathered their items and moved to the Bayon beach on Day 17 and there, the united group elected the name Orkun comprised of six current Ta Keos and seven Bayons. They sat for the typical merge feast and received new buffs before diving almost immediately into tactical discussions. Interestingly, Keith and Joe didn't receive torches for Tribal Council until after the merge due to the Tribal Council order in the previous visits.

14. When the tribe was down to six members, in the tribal council that ensued, something never before seen on "Survivor" happened. What?

From Quiz Survivor Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: No valid votes were cast

There were three votes for Jeremy (Keith, Wentworth, Kimmi) versus three for Wentworth (Jeremy, Tash, Spencer). However before the votes were read, both played an idol (their second, each!). This nullified every vote. They voted again, Jeremy and Kelley now immune. Score were locked 3-3 (Kimmi/Tash) along alliance lines again. There then had to be a discussion among the four who had not received a vote in the last round (ie Jeremy, Spencer, Kelley, Keith ) to determine if anyone would change their vote otherwise rocks would be drawn. (As the other five had immunity options - Keith would have drawn the only rock and therefore would have automatically gone home). Keith offered to go home as Kimmi was a single mother, but the other three in the major alliance, convinced him to change his vote as the others believed Kimmi should pay for betraying the alliance. Keith relented and Kimmi went home, ultimately for betraying her alliance. This level of complexity of Tribal Council was unprecedented in the previous thirty "Survivor" seasons.

15. Who used the new 'Vote Stealer' advantage during this season?

From Quiz Survivor: Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: Stephen

During their Immunity Challenge on Day 24, the castaways were given an opportunity to forfeit the challenge by removing themselves from the running and taking a shot at nabbing a potentially game-changing advantage. The challenge itself, a classic involving balancing on A-frames in the water, ended up getting an interesting twist when Jeff revealed buoys for each participant. If they could swim to their buoy first, they could get the advantage. Stephen was the one to succeed when he gave in and took the reward-- the ability to steal a vote from another player at a Tribal Council. He ended up using it on Day 29, stealing Joe's vote. The catch was that it couldn't save him from being eliminated.

16. At the last immunity challenge, there was an outpouring of similar emotion for very different reasons by two contestants. How was this emotion manifested?

From Quiz Survivor Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: Both Kelly and Jeremy cried

Jeremy broke down with relief, as he had made the final three by winning the last immunity challenge. This is where Jeremy disclosed his wife was pregnant and he was playing this second time for his family. Wentworth cried for the opposite reason. By losing the immunity challenge, she realised she would be going home as she was the only one outside of the remaining alliance. Her prediction proved correct.

17. After several deadlocked votes on Day 36, which castaway was eliminated?

From Quiz Survivor: Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: Kimmi

Day 36's Tribal Council saw a very unique, rare situation in which game mechanics led to a tight deadlock. To begin, three votes went to Jeremy and three votes went to Kelley, but since both utilized their Hidden Immunity Idols, neither could be voted for (along with Immunity winner Spencer) in the follow-up vote. This led to another tie, this time two votes to two votes, for Kimmi and Tasha. This led to a deadlock that rocks couldn't solve. The eligible voters had to select Kimmi or Tasha unanimously or else Keith would be eliminated, being the only one eligible in the deadlock. It boiled down to a unanimous vote from Jeremy, Spencer, Kelley, and Keith against Kimmi and she went to the jury in sixth place.

18. At the last final council, Spencer thought his alliance were about to turn on him. What did he do?

From Quiz Survivor Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: He appealled aggressively to Jeremy to vote out Kelley

Spencer, without immunity was vulnerable. Jeremy, with immunity, had stated that all bets were off, which annoyed Spencer as, when he had immunity, he could have voted Jeremy off but stayed true to the alliance. Spencer stated specifically to Jeremy (assuming he would never vote for Tash), that if he did not vote for Wentworth, who had found two immunity idols and won individual immunities, he was handing effectively a million dollars over to Kelley. Whether or not Jeremy heeded what Spencer said, or whether he stayed true to his alliance is a moot point. In the end he voted for Kelly Wentworth, which, with two other votes sent her home.

19. Who was the Sole Survivor of "Survivor: Cambodia"?

From Quiz Survivor: Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: Jeremy

After thirty-nine long, tough days on the islands of Cambodia, a final three comprised of Jeremy, Tasha, and Spencer faced off against a post-merge jury of ten eliminated competitors. To cap off the season, Jeremy ended up taking all ten of the jury's votes in a rare unanimous decision, and he did so with no votes counting against him at previous Tribal Council ceremonies (as he used a Hidden Immunity Idol to null out three votes on Day 36). His social game and strategic gameplay ended up helping him succeed in taking the million dollar prize while his fellow finalists didn't receive a single vote.

20. The season was won by Jeremy who received an unusual vote count. What was it?

From Quiz Survivor Cambodia - Second Chance

Answer: 10-0-0

While Tash, got to the final three on the back of her social game alone, Spencer demonstrated lessons learned from his previous experience on a previous season by having an improved social game to match his physical game, and we expected to poll well. However the decision was unanimous and Jeremy won all the votes. This in itself was not unique as Earl (Season 14), J.T (Season 18) and Cochran (Season 26) all won unanimously. However, this was the first time there were ten on the jury and so the vote was 10-0-0.
