The episode opened on a picturesque valley, but no location was written on screen. A flag was waving as the scene panned back onto a house, where a couple waited inside for someone to arrive. When I checked state flags, I found out that the state of Wyoming matched the flag shown. The woman was worried why someone would give up their child, and he told her not to worry, it was what they'd hoped and prayed would happen. The social worker drove up in a Jeep Grand Cherokee and handed William to his new parents. She explained that the single mother had made a lifestyle choice, and it was what was good for the baby. After the opening credits the episode backs up a week to explain why it all happened. Adam Nelson and Shannon Hile played the Van De Kamps.

Their dog was busily scratching at the door, which caused the lady to get up from the game and let her outside. She told the man not to look at her letters while she was away. After she walked from the table, you could easily see the "Scrabble" board there in front of the man. "Halo" and "Grand Theft Auto" are video games.

The scene was located in Weston, West Virginia. And Reyes arrived as local police were at the location. The couple, previously seen in the opening sequence, were dead. They'd been placed back at the table, with the "Scrabble" board between them. The man had accidentally killed the woman in that first scene, and now the gun was placed in her right hand. He had a bullet wound to the head. Spelled out in those wooden tiles was "daemonicus". The couple, Evelyn and Darren Mountjoy, were played by Sarah Benoit and Tim Halligan. Annabeth Gish played Agent Reyes. I first saw her in "Mystic Pizza", alongside Julie Roberts and Lili Taylor. She has starred and guest starred in many TV series, including "Pretty Little Liars" and "Sons of Anarchy".

Shannon McMahon (Lucy Lawless) and Knowle Rohrer (Adam Baldwin) were two of the Super Soldiers, who were introduced in the first episode of Season 9. Agent Crane was a Super Soldier who had infiltrated the FBI.

He got into the FBI with a card key that he said Mulder gave to him. Scully talked with Mr. Miller, and then examined his body. He looked as though he'd been burned over much of his body, including his face. He admitted that whatever caused his condition had been injected into him. He had felt like he was being burned inside and out. He was actually Jeffrey Spender. Doggett thought it might be Mulder. Mutant Enemy is the name of writer/director Joss Whedon's production company.

She told the class that she was "Dr. Dana Scully" and that she'd just been assigned to the academy as a forensic investigator. She also told them that for the previous eight years she'd been assigned to the X-Files, which elicited some laughter. When a man asked her if she'd ever slain a vampire, she said she was sorry to disappoint and that this was a class in forensic pathology, hard science. John Doggett walked into her class as she was speaking. The University of Connecticut is located in Stamford, CT., but I do not believe there is any such place in the USA as Stamford University. There is a Stanford University, located in California.

He'd come into the FBI looking for information on Samantha Mulder and others. He also said that there were men in government who were already aliens. He wanted to expose their evil plans to do what was done to him to everyone else. Mulder had supposedly given him specific case names and file numbers, which had already been removed from the X Files. Scully had them in her apartment, and allowed Miller to go through them.

A type of iron kills Super Soldiers. Super Soldiers chased into quarries are sucked into the iron-containing rock and explode. A stab to the back of the neck kills the shape-shifting rebel aliens. Kryptonite kills Superman- wrong show!

They arrived at Chessman State Mental Hospital because the doctor was missing, and the workers there felt him capable of such ritualistic murders as the Mountjoys' murders. Dr. Richmond had been institutionalized there because he'd sewn strychnine into patients during surgery, killing three in the process. He had somehow escaped the facility, but his doctor (Dr. Monique Sampson) was unable to offer anything in the way of an accomplice until she realized a guard was missing. Two people were suspected in the Mountjoy case. Kitsonville, West Virginia (as of 2016) is a real town. It's about 240 miles from Quantico, Virginia.

She realized that it had all been a ruse to get to William. The initial DNA testing would match male siblings, as Fox and Jeffrey Spender shared the Cigarette Smoking Man as their biological father.

Krycek was shot in the head by Skinner in the season eight finale, and Mulder is never the answer. Kobold claimed to be afraid of the devil, but was in contact with the missing patient, Dr. Richmond, in some psychic way. He led them to the location of the missing guard, who'd been shot in the chest and hung upside down from a tree. Paul was played by actor James Rekart. Josef Kobold was played by James Remar. You may remember Remar from his roles on "Sex and the City", "Dexter", or "Grey's Anatomy". He played Karev's father on "Grey's".

William was engineered by the men who ran the alien conspiracy. He was part alien, and birthed and cared for by Scully, all for the future of the alien race. Jeffrey said the metal was a type of magnetite, and was a gift. Magnetite is a type of iron, and the tests showed William's only abnormality to be higher than normal levels of iron.

Doggett told Scully and Reyes that Mulder had a thick file on Josef Kobold. He'd been a professor who lured co-eds into his house, killed them, and used their remains as fertilizer. He was very skeptical of being conned, because according to Mulder's file, Kobold was also a master manipulator. After his conviction, Kobold was placed into the Chessman Hospital.

Dr. Sampson was sitting in a chair inside her home, and when they turned her around, her face was stuck with many syringes. Andi Chapman played Dr. Sampson. She also guest starred on "ER", "BH, 90210", "Switched at Birth", and "Glee".

As Scully poured her heart out to Reyes, the last shot of her, was her crying in front of William's mobile. Then, as the song played over the scene, his new dad brought him in a new mobile, for his new nursery. His old one had stars, and his new one had buffalo/bison hanging from it. That animal is on the Wyoming state flag. "Michael row the boat ashore, Hallelujah..." Very haunting and mostly a cappella, and try as I might, I couldn't locate the name of the artists singing it.

In this last scene we finally got to see Mulder and Scully in bed together.

These were said to him by his new dad, as he and his wife looked into the crib. As they left the room, the last shot was of William smiling and pointing at his mobile. This time, he wasn't able to make it move... "I'll never let go" is what Rose said to a deceased Jack at the end of "Titanic", and "always and forever" is the motto of the Mikaelson clan of the "Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals".

She was back in front of her students. She explained that no matter how thorough an investigation was, that some doubts usually remained. She said that a forensic investigator would seek a conclusion based on the preponderance of evidence in the case. She went on to explain that it was rare that any case ever answered every question and variable presented. Doggett and Reyes came in after the class ended to tell Scully how Kobold had escaped. The man Doggett shot at the end was the guard watching over him. Reyes admitted to Scully that she knew Doggett was afraid to admit he'd also felt the presence of evil in Kobold.
