Fun Trivia
Colonize the New World in this remake of the fourth "Civilization" game from the mind of Sid Meier. Although lesser in its scope of empires of the past, "Colonization", released in 2008, is just as interesting and engaging as the original "Civilization" games.
"Colonization" is available for the PC.

Colonization Trivia Questions

1. What is the special advantage of the English over the other nations?

From Quiz
Colonize!

Answer: Increased rate at which new immigrants want to travel to the New World

"Colonization" features the four dominant powers that later fought for control of the New World - The English, the Dutch, the French and the Spanish. Each has its own advantage over the others, and is therefore played a bit differently. English towns in the new world create 50% more "crosses" than towns belonging to other nationalities. When enough crosses are collected, a new immigrant appears on the docks in London, ready to go to the new world. The Dutch are the master traders, the French get along well with the natives, and the Spaniards reap great benefits from conquest.

2. Which commodity is worth the most money (at first) when it is shipped back to Europe?

From Quiz Colonize!

Answer: Silver

The Spanish made a fortune shipping silver back to Spain, although most of it was sadly stolen from the native tribes. The more silver you sell, however, the more its price drops. Muskets and tools tend to increase in price most quickly, since these are two things you probably won't have the capability to produce at first, but would have the greatest need for!

3. When founding your first city, you might accidentally be trying to put it in the wrong place - the game will alert you to this, so that you don't regret your decision later. What is the mistake you would have made to deserve that warning?

From Quiz Colonize!

Answer: Building a town away from the ocean or a major river

Since trade with Europe is done by ships, you need at least one town that's right on the coast, or along a major river through which ships can travel. You can of course build that town later, and connect your two cities by Wagon Train routes, but this takes time and effort, and you need money FAST.

4. The best reward from exploring Lost City ruins (COINS) is of course finding the Fountain of Youth. What is the effect of this reward?

From Quiz Colonize!

Answer: You automatically receive quite a few colonists at the docks in England

"Coins" are spread throughout the Americas, denoting on the map places where a surprise is hidden. You might find money, or be ambushed, or locate new colonists you can send back to your towns. If you discover the fountain of youth, you may receive upwards of 6 or 7 new colonists for free! If you have the appropriate founding member in your congress at the time, you can actually choose which ones you want to appear there - saves a whole bunch of money, and bolsters your ranks real quick.

5. The highest tier of craftshops you can build in a colony is locked to you until a certain founding member is added to your Continental Congress. Which founding member would that be?

From Quiz Colonize!

Answer: Adam Smith

Adam Smith is the father of free economy. The "Factory" level buildings produce MUCH more than the basic level ones. You can build facilities in a town that allow you to manufacture more of a given product, like Rum or Cigars, with fewer working colonists - this boosts the economic power of the town by a good deal.

6. When a town reaches a certain level of population, it becomes imperative to have more Rebel-supporters than Tories for what reason?

From Quiz Colonize!

Answer: Production falls if the ratio leans too far towards the Tories

A city's population is divided between Tories and Rebels - supporters of Crown-rule and independent-rule respectively. Your goal is of course to garner as many Rebels as you can in each town, in preparation for Independence. Having a high percentage of rebels in the town makes production soar, and this is sometimes CRUCIAL to be able to support that town's industrial needs as it grows beyond a certain point - otherwise you won't be getting enough food to keep your colonists alive. Rebel sentiment can be increased by making Liberty Bells in that town - put a colonist or Elder Statesman to work at the town's hall, and try upgrading it so that it produces more bells per person working there.

7. Once independence has been declared, a number of your veteran soldiers will be "upgraded" to continental level. These troops have a special ability that other Veterans do not have. What is it?

From Quiz Colonize!

Answer: They gain attack bonuses by attacking enemy troops in the wild

The real-world American Continental Troops actually used ambush tactics frequently to disrupt enemy strategy. In the game, you had better use this to your advantage, since the Regulars sent by your home country to suppress your rebellion are quite powerful.
