The best chance for you to do this is to ensure your alignment and reputation is respectable (over 50) so when you meet Canopus' sister, Yulia, she'll be inclined to help you win Canopus over so you can complete this level with the best possible result. The reason why Canopus is the choice here is once Canopus defeats Gilbert an opportunity presents itself for Gilbert to join your army. Without Canopus, Gilbert simply dies and you lose the chance to have a very powerful character in your stable.

Eurynome Rhade is a cold-hearted knight who I think is a really cool character. He hates the rebels and wanted to execute many of them. He fought the Blue Knights but was killed at Mount Ithaca.
