The first generation Camaro had a unibody structure from the windshield and firewall back, with a separate steel rail subframe for everything up front. Double A-arms made up the independent front suspension while the solid rear axle was suspended by semi-elliptical leaf springs. The Modified MacPherson strut system, with a long torque arm and coil springs was used in the third generation Camaros (1982-1992).

The Gen II V6's used in GM N,W,U and X bodies (3100 and 3400) had no loctite on the lower intake bolts from factory and gaskets made of a lesser quality which caused clamping force to release and bolts to back out. In 2001, GM released updated gaskets and bolts to correct this problem.
