The wisent went extinct in 1927. This large bison made its home in the Caucasus and was hunted for centuries. Attempts are being made to breed back the wisent and there are hybrids in existence.

Answer: Javan tiger

There were three types of tigers on the Sunda Islands. They were the Javan, the Bali, and the Sumatran. The one pictured was the Javan tiger which was smaller than most tigers mostly because it hunted smaller animals than other tigers did. It also had thinner stripes.

Answer: Sweden

This protective dog was used to guard all kinds of breeding farm animals. It was a very large Swedish dog that died out around the 1870s due to the extinction of other large carnivores, which meant it was no longer needed.

The bluebuck was a common antelope in Africa until it died out around 1800. It was a grazing animal that was bluish gray in color. It was hunted into extinction by European settlers.

The warrah was the only mammal that was native to the Falkland Islands. As there were no rodents to hunt on these islands, it is thought that they feasted on birds and shore life. It was unafraid of people and its cause of extinction in 1876 is not known.
