Benito Mussolini was born in 1883, in Dovia, which is located in the northeastern part of Italy. In 1922, King Victor Emmanuel III appointed Mussolini Prime Minister of Italy, and in 1925, Mussolini declared a dictatorship, and became the supreme ruler of Italy. In 1943, the Italian government overthrew Mussolini and restored authority to the king. Mussolini was executed on April 28, 1945.

Ferdinand Marcos was born on September 11, 1917. In 1965, he was elected president of the Philippines. In 1969, he was reelected, becoming the first Philippine president to have two terms. On September 21, 1972, Marcos declared martial law in the Philippines, and made himself the sole ruler of the country. Martial law was in effect until January 1981, when it was lifted. However, Marcos remained the ruler until 1986, when he was overthrown by followers of Corazon Aquino, widow of the assassinated opposition leader.

Marcos and his wife, Imelda, fled to Hawaii, where Marcos was arrested for tax evasion and fraud. However, before he could be brought to trial, Marcos died in 1989.
