Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Kin Ed Deans

Answer: Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens, also known as The Habitants or Habs, were an Original Six team, originally founded in 1909. The official franchise name is Le Club de Hockey Canadien and they hold the record for most Stanley Cups won, with 24 (in second place is Toronto, with only 13).
2. Cheek I'll Goad Block Hocks

Answer: Chicago Blackhawks

Another Original Six team, the Black Hawks were founded in 1926. The franchise changed the spelling of their name to Blackhawks in 1986.
3. Trash Hairs

Answer: Thrashers

Atlanta received an NHL team in 1997 and the Thrashers began play in 1999. The team is named after Georgia's state bird, the brown thrasher. The Thrashers were at the centre of a league tragedy in 2003, when then-Thrasher Dany Heatley crashed his Ferrari, killing passenger and teammate Dan Snyder.

After the 2011 season, the Thrashers franchise relocated and became the reborn Winnipeg Jets.
4. Say Burrs

Answer: Sabres

The Sabres have played in Buffalo since 1970.
5. Fee Knocks Key Oat Tees

Answer: Phoenix Coyotes

The Coyotes franchise began in 1972 as the Winnipeg Jets. The team moved to Phoenix in 1996. The Coyotes entered "the Gretzky era" in 2005, when retired NHL great Wayne Gretzky became the head coach and part owner of the team. They became the Arizona Coyotes in 2014, but the franchise was suspended after the 2023 season, with their organization subsequently transferred to form a new expansion team in Utah in 2024.
6. Bah Luge Act Its

Answer: Blue Jackets

The Blue Jackets are based in Columbus, Ohio and were an expansion team in 2000.
7. Rid Winks

Answer: Red Wings

The Detroit NHL franchise, another Original Six team, was founded in 1926. They were first known as the Cougars, then the Falcons, and finally became the Red Wings in 1932. The Red Wings have a famous hockey tradition - the throwing of an octopus onto the ice for good luck.

This began in the 1952 playoffs, when a fish market owner threw one onto the ice. The eight legs were supposed to represent the eight wins that it took to win the Cup at that time, and the Red Wings went onto win eight games in a row that year, winning the Cup.
8. Oh Liars

Answer: Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers franchise was founded in 1932. They were known as the Alberta Oilers for their first year of play.
9. Lozenge Jealous Kinks

Answer: Los Angeles Kings

The Kings were a 1967 expansion team. The league had previously hesitated to establish a team in California, but hockey found a pretty successful market there, possibly due to a large number of Canadian expatriates living in the area.
10. Blah Ooze

Answer: Blues

The St. Louis Blues joined the league in 1967 as an expansion team. The team is named after the W.C. Handy tune "St. Louis Blues".
