We know that there must be 5 or 8 liars, but if there are 8, then nobody could possibly be the venom producer since the statement of Ibis would be contradictory. Therefore, we know that there must be exactly 5 liars.

However, due to the somewhat illogical conditions of the bet, it is actually best to choose the weakest opponent (Rick) as the 3rd opponent, because the conditions of the bet state that you must win 3 in a row (you must win the 1st-3rd games, 2nd-4th, or 3rd-5th), so you must win the 3rd game no matter what.

Reserving the 3rd game for the weakest opponent will give you two chances to beat the strongest, instead of just one.
