Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. John _____ Sleep

Answer: Wayne

John Wayne, a legendary American film star, and Wayne Sleep, a brilliant British ballet dancer.

Wayne Sleep once danced with Princess Diana. John Wayne didn't. (As far as I know...)

It would have been fun to see them in something together!
2. Rex ________ Ford

Answer: Harrison

Sir Rex Harrison, aka Sexy Rexy (which he hated), was a British star of stage and screen in such movies as 'My Fair Lady' and 'Blithe Spirit'. His real first name was Reginald, which somehow doesn't sound quite so sexy.

Harrison Ford, American, and another great actor, is the star of the 'Indiana Jones' movies and many other successful ones including the 'Star Wars' franchise. Not known, as far as I am aware, as a stage actor, but he has done some TV roles.
3. Darryl ______ Reitsch

Answer: Hannah

Lovely American actress Darryl Hannah is known for her appearances in movies such as 'Splash' and 'Blade Runner'.

Hannah Reitsch was a legendary German aviatrix who set many records for 'firsts' in aviation history. Unfortunately she was also a Nazi, although in later life she expressed some guilt over her former views.
4. Elton ____ Lennon

Answer: John

Elton John requires no introduction. Having seen him perform live, I can confirm that he really is an amazing musician. I would have a hard job trying the decide which of his songs I love best. 'Daniel' probably.

John Lennon, who was murdered by Mark David Chapman in 1980, was the rhythm guitarist of the Beatles, and co-wrote many of their songs with Paul McCartney. 'Imagine' was the best selling single of his solo career. Beautiful.
5. Kit ______ McCullers

Answer: Carson

Christopher 'Kit' Carson was an American Frontiersman, hunter and writer. He was a legend in his own lifetime, though known for exaggerating his exploits, which featured in dime novels.

Carson McCullers was an American writer famed for her books, such as 'The Heart is a Lonely Hunter' and 'Reflections in a Golden Eye'. I think she was the better writer!
6. Carol ________ Tatum

Answer: Channing

Carol Channing, who could forget that unique voice! A truly gifted comedienne, actress and dancer. I loved her in 'Thoroughly Modern Millie', but she was also amazing in the stage versions of 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' and 'Hello Dolly'.

Channing Tatum is an American actor, dancer and producer. He is known for '21 Jump Street' and 'Kingsman', among many other movies.
7. James _____ White

Answer: Barry

Slightly different this time.

James Barry was an army surgeon born in Ireland in 1795, and famous for performing a successful Caesarian birth in 1826 in South Africa. But perhaps his most famous claim to fame was his sex - he was a woman, born Margaret Anne Bulkley. There is so much interesting information about this person that it would be worth your while to Google it!

Barry White was an American singer/songwriter with an amazing voice. Who could forget 'You're the First, the Last, My Everything'? And so many other memorable recordings.
8. James ____ Martin

Answer: Dean

James Dean was an American actor whose life was tragically ended by a crash in his Porsche Spyder 550 car in 1955, at the age of 24. He was an excellent actor, and a symbol of the confused and restless young people of his time. Who knows what he might have achieved if he had lived longer.

There are legends about that car - supposedly cursed and still causing injury after being written off by the insurers.

Dean Martin, by contrast, lived a long and full life, dying at 78 in 1995 after three marriages and a long career in acting and singing. He partnered Jerry Lewis for many years.
9. Master _____ White

Answer: Betty

Master Betty, aka William Henry West Betty, was a child actor who was born in 1791 and was an instant sensation. He played 'Hamlet' in 1805, but his career was more or less over by 1808. He had made so much money that he was financially secure for the rest of his life, and after attempting a few fairly disastrous comebacks, he devoted the rest of his life to good works and died in 1874.

Betty White, on the other hand, has been active for longer than any other actor on record. She gained a Guinness World Record for the longest career in entertainment in 2014 at the age of 92. I loved her in the 'Golden Girls'.
10. Penelope _____ Richards

Answer: Keith

Dame Penelope Keith, born in 1940, is a well known English actress who has appeared in movies, on stage and on radio. She's probably best known for her television roles in 'The Good Life' and 'To the Manor Born', but she has acted with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and also appeared in plays by Noel Coward, Oscar Wilde and Terence Rattigan, amongst others.

Keith Richards is a few years younger than Dame Penelope, born in 1943 (and not known for his acting skills!), although his singing, playing and song writing skills as a member of the Rolling Stones are the stuff of legend. He married Patti Hansen in 1983.
