Answer: lack of concern

APATHY means indifference, or a lack of concern. Aristotle first used the word to signify the opposite of "pathos" (feeling). The Stoics looked upon apathy as freedom from emotion, which by their philosophy was a desirable state of mind. A bit like Mr. Spock on 'Star Trek'!

ANTONYM means the opposite. The word synonym has been used in the English language for over 500 years, however "antonym" only started being used in the 1860s.
