Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. There are many kinds of quizzes that aren't accepted in Brain Teasers. Which of the following is a type of quiz that is accepted?

Answer: Logic problems

If you aren't sure if your quiz is acceptable, read the Category Guidelines. If you still aren't sure, send a message to the category editor.
2. A word puzzle quiz with a movie-related theme should be submitted to Brain Teasers.

Answer: No

There are special categories in Movies, Music, Television and Entertainment for word play theme quizzes of these types.
3. The Brain Teasers category accepts scrambled word quizzes.

Answer: No

These have not been accepted since 2000.
4. The Brain Teasers category allows quizzes where all the answers are fill-in-the-blank (FITB).

Answer: Yes

Unlike most categories, Brain Teasers accepts quizzes that are all FITB. However, the FITBs must follow the standard FITB rules- short answers, no punctuation, and only one possible answer.
5. You write a cryptic quiz where all of the answers are football teams of Great Britain. Is this acceptable in Brain Teasers?

Answer: No

From the Category Guidelines; "Please make sure that your quiz does not require knowledge about a specific subject that any reasonably well-educated person would not know- for example, a Fractured Words quiz on fruits and vegetables would be OK, but one on scientific names of African trees would not.

A cryptic quiz on world capitals would be OK, but not one on street names in Pasadena, CA."
6. What is the primary problem that people have in writing a good riddle quiz?

Answer: Riddles with FITB answers that have too many possible answers

From the Category Guidelines; "Writing a good FITB question is very difficult. Fill-in-the blank questions can have only ONE possible answer, and questions with two or more possibilities will be rejected. Most riddles have answers that can be written in many ways and thus won't work well as FITBs.

For example, you may think the answer is "mother", but quizmakers may write that as "mother", "mom", "mommy", "your mom", "your mother"...it just won't work!" In addition, many times quizmakers submit very long answers, such as "The doctor was the mother," that can be written in numerous ways as well.
7. Which of the following would be an acceptable question and answer for an FITB riddle question?

Answer: Q.- I go forever forward, never looking back. My limit no one knows. More of me you lack. I can crawl, stand still, or fly, but am never gotten back. What am I? A- Time

The correct answer is the only question with a simple, non-disputable answer that can be written only one way. It comes from a quiz that got put online. All of the other answers are from quizzes that never made it online. These answers are totally unsuitable as FITBs, as they can be written in numerous ways and still be correct.
8. It's a good idea to copy all of the riddles on your quiz from a book or website, so that you don't make any errors. You don't need to cite where you got the riddles from.

Answer: No

That's plagiarism, and it isn't allowed.
9. A quiz on the riddles from The Hobbit is acceptable in Brain Teasers.

Answer: No

Not only can you run into plagiarism problems, it's been done...and done...and done.
10. You are writing a Fractured Words quiz on soft drink brands. Which of the following clues would be an acceptable one for "Mountain Dew"?

Answer: Mound ton due

All parts of a Fractured Word clue must be real words, and all parts must be spelled differently from the word that they are hinting at.
11. It's OK to have a few questions on your Brain Teasers quiz that are already on other quizzes.

Answer: No

Please be original!
12. Because Brain Teasers is a fun category, the spelling and grammar standards are more relaxed than they are in other categories.

Answer: No

From the Guidelines; "Please check your spelling, grammar, punctuation and facts BEFORE you submit your quiz. Quizzes with significant errors will be rejected! Do not write in all caps or all lower-case letters, and do not use Internet/chatroom abbreviations anywhere in your quiz. All sentences must start with a capital and end with appropriate punctuation."
13. Into which category would you put a quiz on analogies?

Answer: Brain Teasers/Word Play/Analogies

Always find the most specific subcategory for your quiz.
14. You may NOT have any punctuation in the answer to a Brain Teasers question.

Answer: True

No quiz in FunTrivia may have any punctuation in a Fill in the Blank answer. This includes things such as apostrophes, commas, and accents such as umlauts.
15. First-time quizmakers should choose to write a Brain Teasers quiz, as it's easier to get a quiz online in this category than in many others.

Answer: No

Absolutely not! This category has an extremely high rejection rate- a quizmaker who creates an interesting and fun Brain Teasers quiz should be proud- it's justifiable. And that person almost certainly did read the Category Guidelines...and maybe played this quiz!
