Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Orlando's biological father died when he was 4 years old.

Answer: False

Harry Bloom was an author and activist is South Africa. He died when Orlando was 4, but Harry is not Orlando's biological father. When Orlando was 13, he found out that his legal guardian, Colin Stone, is really his biological father. In GQ Magazine January 2004 issue, he says, "My mum was married to one man, who died, but I was fathered by a second one.

She was waiting for me to be old enough to understand it."
2. As a child, Orlando's mother used to enroll him and his sister, Samantha, in what type of competitions?

Answer: poetry reciting

Orlando quoted in YM Magazine's January 2003 issue, "My mum used to sign me {and my sister} up for poetry reciting competitions, and we would always win. I think that somewhat inspired me to be an actor."
3. In order to play the elf-archer, Legolas, in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, Orlando had to shave his head bald and leave it like that from 1999 to 2001.

Answer: False

He didn't have to shave his head bald, he just shaved his hair into a mohawk. That raised his hairline, like the elves, and made the wig fit better for him. If you see some pictures with Orlando wearing a mohawk, that's probably because it was taken during or shortly after the filming of "Lord of the Rings", (from 1999 to 2001).
4. Orlando's first movie came out in 1997. What is the name of this movie?

Answer: Wilde

"Wilde" came out in theaters in 1997, 4 years before "The Fellowship of the Ring" came out in 2001. Orlando was a rentboy, a very small part, but that didn't stop most ladies that saw the film from falling in love with him. By the way, "Casualty" and "Midsomer Murders" are both TV series', in which Orlando appeared.
5. After he appeared in "Wilde", Orlando was offered many movie and TV roles. He turned them down in order to attend a famous school. What is the name of this school?

Answer: Guildhall School of Music and Drama

"Lord of the Rings" co-star Christopher Lee, went to Oxford University. There's no such thing as The London Acting School. Orlando did get a scholarship to the British-American Drama Academy, but he was still in high school when he went there. After he finished up his education, Orlando attended Guildhall School of Music and Drama for 3 years, in order to "polish up" his acting skills.
6. Orlando smoked sometime for a few years.

Answer: Yes

He smoked for a few years, but stopped in 2002. He was afraid it would affect his acting career. Ever since he quit smoking, he started biting his nails instead. This fact can be found at www.theorlandobloomfiles.com/biography.html.
7. Orlando played Private 1st Class Todd Blackburn in "Black Hawk Down", which came out in 2002. Who directed this movie?

Answer: Ridley Scott

Peter Jackson directed the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, Stephen Spielberg didn't direct any movie that Orlando was in, and Gore Verbinski directed "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl". Ridley Scott also directed "Kingdom of Heaven", which Orlando stars in, alongside many famous actors, including Liam Neeson, Eva Green, and Jeremy Irons.
8. In the movie "Elizabethtown", (October 2005) Orlando's character, Drew Baylor, meets a young flight attendant, played by Kirsten Dunst. What is her name?

Answer: Claire Colburn

Kirsten Dunst plays Claire Colburn, the flight attendant with whom Orlando's character, Drew Baylor, falls in love with. "Elizabethtown" opens in theaters in October, 2005. You can visit the official website at: www.elizabethtown.com.
9. "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl", where he plays the fabulous blacksmith-turned-pirate Will Turner, is based on a book.

Answer: False

"Pirates of the Caribbean" is a ride in both Disneyland and Disney World. I've been to both parks and rode them lots of times. The rides are great, with scenes from the movie and everything. There is a "Pirates of the Caribbean" but the book was published after the movie filming was finished.
10. In order to play Will Turner in "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl", Orlando had to let his hair grow to about shoulder-length.

Answer: No

He actually had hair extensions put in to make his hair longer without having to grow it long. In the movie, I couldn't even tell that he had hair extensions! I must say that he looks very nice with them in, too!
