1. Which rock and roll pioneer was born Richard Wayne Penniman in Macon, Georgia?

Answer: Little Richard

Richard Wayne Penniman is better known as Little Richard. He had a string of hits starting in 1955 with "Tutti Frutti", "Lucille" and "Long Tall Sally". He was one of the first inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. He was also one of four artists to receive the Rhythm & Blues Foundation's Pioneer Lifetime Achievement Award. Penniman was born in Macon, Georgia, and raised in a religious family.

He sang Gospel music in his family group called the Penniman Singers. In 1951 he won a talent show in Atlanta, which earned him a recording contract.

After a string of hits he returned to his Gospel music roots until he appeared on a bill with the Beatles in the early sixties. The Beatles cited Little Richard as one of their influences and his songs have been done by numerous artists through the years. Since he appeared on the same bill as the Beatles he has continued to perform and occasionally appears in films and on television. Jiles J.P. Richards, also known as the Big Bopper, was born in Sabine Pass, Texas. Ritchie Valens was born in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles and "Louie, Louie" composer Richard Berry was born in Extension, Louisiana.

Answer: Trisha Yearwood

Trisha Yearwood burst onto the Country scene when a single from her self-titled debut album titled "She's in Love With the Boy" went directly to the top of the Country charts. In 1994 she won the first of three Grammy awards. Two years later she performed at the closing ceremonies of the 1996 Summer Olympics.

She is also a two-time Country Music Association Awards winner has two Academy of Country Music Awards. Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood were married in 2005 and reside in Owasso, Oklahoma. Carpenter was born in Princeton, New Jersey. Pam Tillis was born in Plant City, Florida, and Patty loveless was born Patricia Lee Ramey near Pikeville, Kentucky.

Answer: Billy Joe Royal

Billy Joe Royal learned piano, guitar and drums then performed regularly with a band at the Bamboo Ranch in Savannah, Georgia. While performing around the South he connected with songwriter and singer Joe South. Joe asked him to record a demo for a song he wrote called "Down in the Boondocks".

Although intended to be a demo, record company executives liked the recording and released it. After the song hit the Top Ten he followed up with "I Knew You When" and "Hush", also written and produced by Joe South.

In 1969 another single, "Cherry Hill Park", peaked at number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100. Joe South had two hits of his own around the same time with "Games People Play" and "Walk A Mile In My Shoes". In the seventies Royal performed frequently in Las Vegas and took work as an actor. During the eighties Royal had a comeback with Country hits including "Burned Like a Rocket", and "I'll Pin a Note on Your Pillow". Reed, Roe and South were all born in Atlanta.

Answer: Robin Finck

Robin Finck grew up in Marietta, Georgia and, as a teen, played with bands in the Atlanta area. He joined Nine Inch Nails as part of their touring band in 1994 for their "Self-Destruct" and "Further Down the Spiral" tours as well as at Woodstock '94. In 1996 Robin signed a two year contract with Guns N' Roses to replace Slash and play on an album that was in production.

At the end of his contract he rejoined Nine Inch Nails in time for their "Fragility v1.0" and "Fragility v2.0" tours and played on the "And All That Could Have Been" album.

When the tour ended in 2000 he returned to Guns N' Roses and toured with them in Brazil, Asia, Europe and North America. Finck continues to perform for both bands as his schedule permits. Saul Williams opened for Nine Inch Nails and performed on stage with the band during the Voodoo Music Experience Festival, in hurricane-stricken New Orleans. Moulder and Ross performed on Nine Inch Nails' "Ghosts I-IV" album.

Rowland was born Kelendria Trene Rowland in Atlanta, Georgia. She later moved to Houston, Texas, where she became involved with a rapping and dancing group with her friends Beyoncé Knowles and LaTavia Roberson. They were originally part of a six-piece band calling themselves Girl's Tyme.

They performed on "Star Search" and lost. Undaunted, Beyonce's father quit his job and became their full time manager. In 1993 they reduced the members to four and changed their name to Destiny's Child, after a passage in the Book of Isaiah.

After touring for four years the girls signed with Columbia Records and recorded their Columbia debut song, "Killing Time", for the soundtrack to the 1997 film "Men in Black". They achieved stardom upon release of their second album, "The Writing's on the Wall".

The Indigo Girls formed in 1985 and became a part of the Atlanta area college music scene. The LA-based Pussycat Dolls were originally a dance troupe before becoming a singing group. Grammy winning Atlanta-based TLC formed in 1991.

Alan Jackson grew up listening to Gospel music in Georgia. As a teen he formed a band and, after he married, he went to Nashville to pursue a career as a singer and songwriter. He landed a job in the mail room of the "The Nashville Network". His wife, Denise, connected him to Glen Campbell and soon Jackson signed with Arista Records.

His first release, "Here in the Real World", was a success and several albums followed. In 1992 Randy Travis charted three singles co-written by Jackson and Travis co-wrote Jackson's "She's Got the Rhythm (And I Got the Blues)".

Other Country Music artists who have recorded songs co-written by Jackson include Clay Walker, Chely Wright and Faith Hill. In 2001 Jackson was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. Travis Tritt is another Georgia native. Randy Travis is from North Carolina and Clay Walker came into the world in Beaumont, Texas.

Her album "Best Kept Secret" was released in April, 2008. Actress and singer Hilary Duff was born in Houston, Texas. Lavigne was born in Belleville, Ontario, and Amanda Leigh "Mandy" Moore was born in Nashua, New Hampshire.

Emory Gordy, Jr. was born in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to being an in-demand bass player he is also a Grammy winning music producer. Gordy and his wife, Patty Loveless, are both in the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. He joined Elvis Presley's TCB Band in 1973 and can be heard on many of Elvis' recordings from the early seventies.

He was also a bassist for Rodney Crowell's Notorious Cherry Bombs and Emmylou Harris' The Hot Band. After relocating to Los Angeles in the early sixties he began working steadily as a session player and went on tour with Neil Diamond in 1971, followed by tours with Elvis, John Denver and Harris.

Some of the artists he has produced include J.J. Cale, The Bellamy Brothers, Vince Gill and Earl Thomas Conley.

Harry James was born in Albany, Georgia. He started his performing career as a trumpeter in the Ben Pollack Orchestra in 1935 and in 1937 he joined clarinetist Benny Goodman's orchestra for a year. A year later he formed his own band, made his debut in Philadelphia and worked steadily with the band into the eighties.

He has the distinction of being the first major big-bandleader to employ Frank Sinatra as a singer. He suggested that Sinatra use the name Frankie Satin. James overdubbed Kirk Douglas' trumpet playing in the movie "Man with a Horn". Among the 11 movies he appears in are "Springtime in the Rockies", "Two Girls and a Sailor" and "I'll Get By".

He also performed on many television shows during the fifties and sixties. Goodman and drummer/bandleader Ben Pollack were born in Chicago and trombone player and bandleader Glenn Miller is from Iowa.

Answer: Atlanta Rhythm Section

In the early seventies former members of the Candymen and the Classics IV became the house musicians for Studio One in Doraville, Georgia. After playing on sessions for other musicians, Rodney Justo, Barry Bailey, Paul Goddard, Dean Daughtry and Robert Nix formed the Atlanta Rhythm Section.

The band soon developed a following in the south and broke nationally with songs like "Doraville", "I'm Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight", "Champagne Jam", "So Into You" and "Imaginary Lover". They also had a hit with a remake of the Classics IV hit, "Spooky".

In 1978 they were invited by President and former Georgia governor Jimmy Carter to perform at the White House. Between 1972 and 1999 the group produced 15 albums. The Classics IV were formed in Florida but gained national recognition after moving to Atlanta.

The Candymen were Roy Orbison's backing band and included a guitar player from Florida named Bobby Goldsboro. The Georgia Satellites band is from Atlanta, Georgia.
