Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the travel show (airing 2011) which Karl Pilkington appears in?

Answer: An Idiot Abroad

Karl THOUGHT the program was going to be called "Karl Pilkington's Seven Wonders". The show is all about Karl going to see the most amazing accomplishments of mankind, and of course totally missing the point.
2. Who are Karl's co-hosts on the radio and on television?

Answer: Ricky Gervais and Steven Merchant

Gervais and Merchant created the television shows "The Office" (2001-2004) and "Extras"(2005-2007). On the radio, they ask Karl about life. HBO has produced an animated version of their conversations in "The Ricky Gervais Show" (2010-2011).
3. Karl Pilkington is a published author.

Answer: True

Karl wrote "The World of Karl Pilkington" (2006), "Happyslapped by a Jellyfish" (2007) and others. Maybe the most remarkable thing about reading them is trying to believe an adult man writes such rubbish. Here is an excerpt:
"They say the more you know, the more you know you don't know. I don't know who said this (which proves the saying is right)."
4. In "The Ricky Gervais Show" Season 2, Episode 6, what reason did Karl give for believing the story of the Great Flood, from the Bible?

Answer: It's out there, you know... in book form.

This is apparently enough to convince Karl. As with many opinions Karl gives, it sent Ricky into a screaming fit.
5. Who is Karl's girlfriend?

Answer: Suzanne

If you put "He doesn't have one", you are probably just one of the many, many people who wonder why anyone would date Karl. Ricky and Steve remain perplexed by this. In "The Ricky Gervais Show" (2010-2011), the animators never draw Suzanne's face.
6. Karl has pitched a movie idea to real producers.

Answer: True

Yes, actual movie producers have listened to Karl's pitch. His artistic vision starred Rebecca De Mornay and Clive Warren (no, there is no such actor as Clive Warren), and the possibility of having half of another person's brain put in your head. Listen to the entire description in "The Ricky Gervais Show" Season 2, Episode 1.
7. Karl eventually refused to continue doing one of the most popular features of the radio program he hosted. What was the name of this segment?

Answer: Monkey News/ Chimpanzee That!

Originally called "Chimpanzee That!" when it debuted in 2002, the segment was renamed "Monkey News". It involved Karl reading his version of "real" news events involving monkeys or apes. In it, he has described a spacecraft with a "left button" and a banana dispenser, a woman leaving her husband for a chimp, and a chimp hosting an interview program.
8. In an audio-book about philosophy released in 2009 (The Ricky Gervais Guide to Philosophy), Ricky and Steve tried to explain Rene Descartes' proof of existence: "I think, therefore I am." To introduce the topic, they asked Karl how he knew he wasn't just dreaming his life. What did Karl answer?

Answer: Because I haven't been sleeping very well lately.

In a long, frustrating attempt to get Karl to understand the concept, Ricky and Steve had to try several different ways to ask the question. At some point in the Philosophy Audio-book, Steve screams "This is EXHAUSTING!".
9. What was the subject matter of the first poem Karl wrote in his diary?

Answer: Blind moths and cavemen

Perhaps the greatest poem ever written, it was one of the few parts of Karl's diary that Ricky insisted needed to be read by the author himself. Karl went on to write a few other poems, about such diverse topics as jellyfish and penis pain. Karl's collected poems can be read in "Happyslapped by a Jellyfish" (2007) and "Karlology" (2008).
10. In the "Podfather Trilogy" (2006), Karl described a visit to his parents' home to Karl and Steve. He mentioned sleeping on a mattress which had been cut in two to fit between bookshelves, his Uncle Alf who sleeps in an inflatable dinghy, the "bee man", and the woman next door "whose mam was a witch." What does Steve compare Karl's life to?

Answer: A Roald Dahl book

Among the things shouted by Ricky and Steve were: "You live in a nursery rhyme!" "This isn't like a real place!" "This is like Narnia!" "This is like a Roald Dahl book!"
And in another Roald Dahl reference, Steve says "Now back to this reading from The Twits."
