Sarah Jessica Parker was born on March 25, 1965 in Nelsonville, Ohio, but her family moved to Dobbs Ferry, NY (outside of New York City) when she was a young girl. They also lived on Roosevelt Island, NY and then in Manhattan. When their children were teenagers, her parents moved the family to Englewood, New Jersey.

Parker first went to the School for Creative and Performing Arts, when she still lived in Ohio. When she lived in New York, Parker attended the School of American Ballet, then later the Professional Children's School, also in NYC. When the family moved to New Jersey, she briefly attended Dwight Morrow High School, before moving to Los Angeles and finishing her education at Hollywood High School.

Other notable students of the School of American Ballet include Ashlee Simpson, Macauley Culkin, and Megan Mullaly, as well as many people who went on to join the New York City Ballet.
