Question 1 of 10
1. Richard Blackwell - an American fashion critic - once described this Hollywood star's figure and clothing as reminding him of the "rebirth of the zeppelin". Awww, now that's not nice! In 1965 she wore a 'lovely' blue sparkly dress with an impossibly impractical matching headdress, which looked like a mix of flowers and sticks (or hypodermic needles if viewed from a distance). Who is this actress who has had nearly more marriages than fingers to count them on? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. Who caused a scene on her Blond Ambition tour (in the 1990s) with a Jean Paul Gaultier impossibly impractical pointy bra? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Which supermodel, known for being impossible to deal with, fell over on the catwalk at a Vivienne Westwood runway show in 1993 because she found it near impossible to walk in her ten-inch platform shoes? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. The wearing of animals has been a big fashion no-no since the late twentieth century - although this usually refers to animals skins such as leathers and furs. Which Icelandic singer created a storm of gossip by wearing an animal replica to the Academy Awards (Oscars) in 2001? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Worn in 1994 to the London premiere of the movie 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' was the 'safety pin' dress. Which little-known (at the time) actress wore this dress (just!)? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Whilst it may seem completely normal to wear a facemask in public if you are in the middle of an outbreak of bird or swine flu, it has not generally been done as a statement of fashion. Which celebrity made sure his three children wore facemasks or veils in public so people would find it impossible to recognize them and also to help them have a more 'normal' life? This entertainer also wore facemasks in public himself prior to his death in 2009 (although the reasons as to why are unclear). Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Oops! She did it again. After wearing a Dolce & Gabbana see-through lace dress (with not much underneath - impossible for a 'non-celebrity' to do!) to the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA), which celebrity starlet wore a similar outfit again in 2010 to the same awards ceremony? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Is it possible for a 43-year-old woman to look good in a fishnet body stocking? Maybe. Maybe not. Just ask this celebrity who might have wished she could turn back time and change her outfit before filming the video clip for this 1989 number one hit. Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. Which celebrity (first coming to the attention of the masses in the mid 2000s) was known for her impossibly crazy hair and crazy outfits? She also released a song entitled 'Fashion' (appropriately fitting for this quiz!) in 2009 which appeared on the 'Confessions of a Shopaholic' (movie) soundtrack. Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Impossible not to laugh at is the mankini, the male version of a women's bikini swimsuit. Which celebrity 'popularised' this fashion nightmare by posing in a neon green mankini during the 2006 Cannes Film Festival to promote his new film 'Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan'? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor is known more for her numerous marriages than either her acting or sense of fashion. Taylor was one of Richard Blackwell's common 'targets' along with Zsa Zsa Gabor. She had a tendency to try to fit her voluptuous body into clothing that was probably a bit too small in the first place, creating an overflow from her either wide or low-cut neckline.

Zsa Zsa Gabor was also a 'target' of Blackwell. Katharine Hepburn was more noted for her 'manly' clothing, namely trousers and a tailored jacket, in a time when women were encouraged to wear dresses and dress as ladies. Pamela Anderson may be a celebrity but as a two-year-old in 1969, she doesn't fit the bill for this question.
2. Who caused a scene on her Blond Ambition tour (in the 1990s) with a Jean Paul Gaultier impossibly impractical pointy bra?

Answer: Madonna

In 2010 it was revealed that Jean Paul Gaultier had teamed up with La Perla (lingerie house) to release a new 'cone bra'. Styled on the 1990s Madonna version, this bra was designed for everyday use and although completely impractical, it was said to open up the fashion world to a whole new world of clothing design. Madonna wore the Jean Paul Gaultier designed cone bra/corset on her 'Blond Ambition' tour in the 1990s.

Deborah Harry was known for her solo work and with the group Blondie, with her first solo album being released in 1981. Neither Britney Spears or Lady Gaga were active in the early-mid 1990s and both were definitely way too young to go dancing around on stage in their underwear - costume or not!
3. Which supermodel, known for being impossible to deal with, fell over on the catwalk at a Vivienne Westwood runway show in 1993 because she found it near impossible to walk in her ten-inch platform shoes?

Answer: Naomi Campbell

Naomi Campbell is not the only celebrity to become victim to her shoes. Emma Bunton (aka Baby Spice) injured her ankle in a fall whilst wearing a pair of platform sneakers, and Agyness Deyn fell twice in the same runway show - which actually happened to be organized by the original platform victim herself - Naomi Campbell! The show in which Deyn fell was the Fashion for Relief Haiti event in 2010. In 1999, a Japanese woman died as a result of a fall from her platform shoes, compelling scientists to study the negative effects of footwear on its users.
4. The wearing of animals has been a big fashion no-no since the late twentieth century - although this usually refers to animals skins such as leathers and furs. Which Icelandic singer created a storm of gossip by wearing an animal replica to the Academy Awards (Oscars) in 2001?

Answer: Bjork

Bjork is known for her eccentricities and the famous swan dress of 2001 was no exception. Designed by Marjan Pejoski, a Macedonian fashion designer, the swan dress was several layers of tulle creating the skirt of the dress and body of the swan, with the 'neck' of the swan wrapping around the neck of Bjork and the 'head' resting comfortably over her right breast.

The swan dress has been parodied several times since, with Kevin James wearing his own version for the People's Choice Awards in 2002, claiming that he found the look first. Emiliana Torrini performed 'Gollum's Song' during the end credits of movie 'The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers', she also co-wrote 'Slow' and 'Someday' from Kylie Minogue's 'Body Language' album (2003). Bubbi Morthens and Megas are both Icelandic music artists with both releasing several albums, including collaborations between the two (1983 and 1988).
5. Worn in 1994 to the London premiere of the movie 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' was the 'safety pin' dress. Which little-known (at the time) actress wore this dress (just!)?

Answer: Elizabeth Hurley

At the time, Elizabeth Hurley was a little-known actress and only known for being the girlfriend of Hugh Grant. Liz attended the premiere of 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' with Grant in what was declared in 2008 as the 'greatest red carpet gown of all time' by UK department store, Debenhams. The dress was designed by Gianni Versace and he obviously made it too small for Liz. She needed more than ten large gold safety pins to hold the dress together at the sides with the top of the dress barely covering her breasts.

Pamela Anderson, Andie MacDowell and Julia Roberts are all actresses who commonly appeared on red carpets at around the same time as Liz Hurley appeared in her safety pin dress. Of the three, Anderson would seem to be the only one having the courage to wear something like Hurley's dress - although maybe matching the dress with a pair of ugh boots instead of some nice black heels. Andie MacDowell was on the same red carpet as Hurley - she was in 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' with Grant.

Answer: Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson's children, when out in public, always had their faces covered with either a mask or veil. Jackson's reasoning for this was that he wanted to have his children lead as normal a life as possible. This may seem strange to an outsider, but after thinking about it for a while, it can actually make sense. When the children went out without their father (ie with a nanny or friends, etc) they could be 'normal' children. They would have the opportunity to experience the same things as children not in their position, with the freedom of knowing that they couldn't be recognized by paparazzi, crazed Jackson fans, or people wanting to do them or their family harm.

Patrick Swayze and David Carradine both died in 2009 along with Michael Jackson, with Swayze having no children and Carradine having three - although he is not known for covering their faces whilst out in public. John Travolta was still alive at the end of 2009, yet his son, Jett, died in January of that year. Travolta also has no history of hiding his children's faces with masks of veils.

Answer: Britney Spears

2001's outfit was received quite well by the critics, but the 2010 version, not so much. Both involved a see-through lace dress yet the 2001 version was a lot skimpier - which may be why it was preferred by the critics. The 2010 version was black with a one-piece style bodysuit underneath. The hemline came to her knees, but unfortunately, she came out looking frumpy instead of sexy. Could any 'normal' person get away this this sort of clothing? Maybe not, but maybe some celebrities shouldn't either...

Jessica Simpson, Christina Aguilera, and Lady Gaga all have their own fashion style and appear in the tabloids yet none seem appear as much as Britney.
8. Is it possible for a 43-year-old woman to look good in a fishnet body stocking? Maybe. Maybe not. Just ask this celebrity who might have wished she could turn back time and change her outfit before filming the video clip for this 1989 number one hit.

Answer: Cher

Cher's fishnet body stocking and bathing suit definitely set tongues wagging after the release of her 1989 hit 'If I Could Turn Back Time'. The clip was banned by MTV and only shown after 9pm due to it being quite explicit and suggestive. The video was later re-shot and allowed to be viewed on 'normal' television again.

Of the answer options listed, Madonna would be the only one (apart from Cher) who would even think of trying to pull off such a revealing outfit. I think seeing either Aretha Franklin or Bette Midler in a fishnet body stocking would be enough to send anyone running in the opposite direction!

Answer: Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga (born Stephani Germanotta) had no one 'look'. She describes her fashion as art and attributes her popularity and rise to stardom to the gay community. Lady Gaga didn't just wear her unconventional clothing as costumes at her concerts either, she quite happily wore them in normal life (apparently). Lady Gaga seems to be more than a persona, Stephani Germanotta IS Lady Gaga.

Bjork and Cher only seem to have one or two impossible outfits. Amy Winehouse is not known for her unconventional clothing but more for her lack of any sort of style whatsoever.

Answer: Sacha Baron Cohen

Who can forget the image of Sacha Baron Cohen as Borat dressed in his neon green mankini? Once you have seen that image, it is burned into your retinas forever! The mankini consists of something that looks similar to a standard bikini brief although instead of the hips holding up the bathing suit, it is the shoulders. Sacha Baron Cohen caused a stir for his movie as well as the mankini.

Ken Davitian plays Borat's 'producer', Azamat Bagatov in the Borat movie. Nursultan Tuyakbay is the name of Borat's neighbour (as portrayed in the movie), Ilham Aliyev was the president of Azerbaijan at the time of filming and his picture was shown in the final scenes of the movie although no reference was made to him at all (in the preceding scenes).
