"Forbidden Planet" is the classic sci-fi movie which starred, among others, Walter Pidgeon. Unusual for the time, it was the first sci-fi movie set entirely on another planet.

The only female star of "Forbidden Planet", Anne Francis, started her career on Broadway. She didn't make the ranks of top stars, but was a beautiful, good actress so why not? Some of her many memorable roles were in "Bad Day at Black Rock", "Blackboard Jungle" and "Funny Girl" (in which her part was severely cut). She is memorable as a TV star too, in "Honey West", "Twilight Zone" and many other shows.

Robby was a popular character in many other productions after "Forbidden Planet". Perhaps it was because he had a charming personality instead of being just a mechanical follower of instructions.

The "Lost in Space" robot was similar, but a different robot was used, with

The astronaut, named Major Tom, was a creation of David Bowie. "Space Oddity" and was a song on his 1969 album, "David Bowie". The album was later renamed "Space Oddity".

The song was, and continues to be, an influence on other songs and music not only in the U.S., but in other countries such as France and Germany. You can still hear references to it on various TV shows and series.

"CE3K" is a film by Steven Spielberg that starred Richard Dreyfuss and Teri Garr. It dealt with the effect of the strange vision of an ordinary man.
"The third kind" means an encounter with aliens from another world, by humans.
The man, played by Richard Dreyfuss, is drawn by a strange vision to Devil's Tower in Wyoming, where his encounter with aliens occurs.

The great composer, John Williams, in 1978 was nominated for an Oscar for this film, as well as one for "Star Wars". He certainly wasn't "Lost in Space"! (He won that year for "Star Wars").

This novel had a huge influence on later scientists and writers, and was the beginning of the sci-fi genre.
Verne's calculations about aspects of travel to the moon were surprisingly accurate for the time. This book inspired Konstantin Tsiolkovsky's scientific theories of space travel in his 1903 writings.
Famous turn-of-the century author, H. G. Wells, wrote "The First Men In The Moon", which led to a bit of sniping between Wells and Verne. (Friendly, we hope).
