While the story may sound corny in the present day, the movie won two Oscar nominations for Best Musical Score and Best Special Effects.

The movie was remade in 1966 as "One Million Years B.C.", a film that is better remembered for Raquel Welch's turn in the lead role.

William Golding was a British novelist whose most popular work is "Lord of the Flies", a story of a group of boys marooned on an island and their attempts to run their lives there. Golding was the recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature and was also knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.

"The Inheritors" is an attempt at recreating the lives of the Neanderthals and describing the bonds shared by the tribesmen despite their inability to communicate using words. Ultimately the Neanderthals become extinct as they make way for the more evolved homo sapiens.

"B.C." was created by Johnny Hart and made its newspaper debut in 1958. Hart continued to write and draw the strip till his death in 2007 after which it was taken over by his grandchildren.

The strip features cavemen and women along side various prehistoric creatures like dinosaurs and an apteryx. Despite its setting, the comic found ways to some times comment on current situations and events.

Manny is a woolly mammoth who along the way is joined by a sloth named Sid. Diego is a smilodon, better known as a sabre-toothed cat, who starts off as a negative character before he has a change of heart. Despite the presence of so many prehistoric animals, there are no dinosaurs in this movie, though they do make an appearance in one of its many sequels.

"Ice Age" was nominated for the Best Animated film Academy Award but lost out to "Spirited Away".

The "Far Cry" series is a franchise of first person shooter games.

"Far Cry Primal" is set in 10,000 B.C. in a fictional place named the Oros valley. The location is given as Central Europe and going with the theme animals like dinosaurs, woolly mammoths and sabre-toothed cats make an appearance. The main character is Takkar, a tribesman who is left alone and defenseless when his hunting party is attacked. Given the setting of the prequel, the weapons were changed to prehistoric implements like clubs and axes, though players could upgrade to more sophisticated weapons as they progressed.

"Jurassic Park" was based on a book of the same name by Michael Crichton. Directed by Steven Spielberg, the movie was a hit across the world making it the highest grossing film ever at that time and spawning several sequels. Crichton also collaborated on the screenplay of the original film.

The plot centered on a wildlife park created on a fictional island near Central America that was populated by cloned dinosaurs. A billionaire had funded the project which involved a team of scientists using fossilized DNA to clone the extinct animals. Things begin to go awry when one of the park employees is killed by a dinosaur.

"The Croods" is set in a fictional prehistorical period named "The Croodaceous". The title is taken from the name of a family of cave dwellers which consists of the patriarch Grug and his wife Ugga along with their three children. Gran is the grandmother who lives with them. Grug comes across as a strict disciplinarian causing his daughter, Eep to try to rebel against him. The family dynamics are further thrown into disarray when a young boy, Guy, crosses their path.

Eep and Guy were voiced by Emma Stone and Ryan Reynolds respectively. The patriach Grug was voiced by Nicholas Cage.
