Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Barry Windham has had many aliases and nicknames. Which one was not Barry Windham?

Answer: Executioner

Blackjack Mulligan was one of the masked Executioners, along with Killer Kowalski. Barry took on the i.d. Blackjack Mulligan, Jr. after revealing himself to be Blackjack's son. He became the masked Dirty Yellow Dog after being beaten and humiliated in a loser-leaves-Florida match by Outlaw Ron Bass and Widowmaker was a nickname given to him during one of his stays in the World Wrestling Federation.
2. Who is the "King of Old School"?

Answer: Steve Corino

Steve Corino became the self-proclaimed "King of Old School" in ECW, refusing to participate in the soap-opera skits such as those that are now all-too-prevelant in WWE, concentrating instead on old-style feuds and telling a story with ring action. Harley Race appeared in the 1980's World Wrestling Federation as "The King" after winning a "King of the Ring" tournament. Jerry Lawler is, of course, "The King" of Memphis. Fictional wrestler Jimmy "The King" King is from the movie "Let's Get Ready To Rumble".
3. Frank "Bruiser Brody" Goodish was stabbed to death by a promoter/wrestler. True or false?

Answer: True

On June 17, 1988, wrestler/promoter Jose "The Invader" Gonzalez stabbed the 6'8" 325 pound "Bruiser Brody" several times in the abdomen in the locker room after a card for the World Wrestling Council of Puerto Rico. Brody bled to death before help arrived.

At his trial, where he appeared in court wearing his signature white wrestling mask, Gonzalez testified that he and Goodish had several past locker-room confrontations and that he feared for his safety and stabbed "Brody" in self-defense. The only witness, wrestler Tony Atlas, refused to testify at the trial and Gonzalez was aquitted.
4. What do these wrestling superstars have in common: Dusty Rhodes, Dick Murdoch, Tully Blanchard, Bruiser Brody, Tito Santana, Terry Funk, Scott Casey, Manny Fernandez, Stan Hansen, Barry Windham, and Ted DiBiase?

Answer: All were varsity football players for West Texas State.

West Texas State University [since 1993: West Texas A & M] in Canyon, Texas turned out pro wrestlers in the 60's and 70's the way Penn State turned out linebackers!
5. The three Laurenitis brothers [Joe, John, and Marc] all made their marks in pro wrestling. Which is not an alias that was used by the brothers?

Answer: Hawk

Joe = Animal; John = Johnny Ace; Marc = Terminator Riggs. The late Michael Hegstrand, aka Hawk, was Animal's long-time tag team partner with The Legion of Doom: The Road Warriors.

The original Four Horsemen, managed by J.J. Dillon, were Ric Flair, Ole Anderson [Al Rogowski], Arn Anderson [Marty Lunde], and Tully Blanchard. Gene and Lars [Larry Heineimi] Anderson were the original Minnesota Wrecking Crew. Lex Luger [Larry Pfohl] was a second-generation Horseman, replacing Ole.
7. Which of the following were not true brothers?

Answer: Johnny and Greg Valentine

When Greg Valentine[Johnathan Wisniski, Jr.], was introduced to the pro wrestling world, he was billed as Johnny Valentine's younger brother because the promoters didn't want the fans to know that their star attraction had a son old enough to enter the business or that he [John, Sr.] was nearly 50 years old. Oklahoma's Brisco brothers both held world championship gold [Jack = 2-times NWA World Heavyweight Champion; 1973 - 1975: Jerry = NWA Jr.

Heavyweight Champion [? year: Briscos = 3 times NWA World Tag Team Champions]. 8. Which of the following are not father/son?

Answer: Rey Misterio and Rey Misterio, Jr.

The original Rey Misterio is the uncle of Oscar Guiterrez Rubio [Rey Misterio, Jr.]. Robert Windham [Blackjack Mulligan] is the father of Kendall and Barry Windham. The late Eddie Graham and his son Mike share the real surname Gosset.
9. Which of the following wrestlers did not play football in the AFL or NFL?

Answer: Dusty Rhodes

Dusty Rhodes had a short-lived minor league baseball career. Dick "the Bruiser" Afflis = Green Bay Packers [1951 - 1954]; "The Big Cat" Ernie Ladd = San Diego Chargers/Houston Oilers/Kansas City Chiefs (AFL) [1961 - 1970]; Ed "Wahoo" McDaniel = Houston Oilers/Denver Broncos/NY Titans(Jets)/Miami Dolphins (AFL) [1960 - 1968].
10. In recent Ohio Valley Wrestling history, Sinn raised Leviathan [now Dave Batista] from the "depths of the Ohio River". In the early 1980's, on an episode of Championship Wrestling from Florida, Kevin Sullivan raised this wrestling madman from the "depths of the Gulf Of Mexico". Who was he?

Answer: The Purple Haze

In his never-ending scheme to rid Florida Championship Wrestling of his nemesis, "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, the "Prince of Darkness" Kevin Sullivan summoned from the Gulf of Mexico a musclebound powerhouse called the Purple Haze, otherwise known as the wrestling veteran "Maniac" Mark Lewin. On later episodes, he would convince Bob Roop to shave off half of his hair [I believe the left side was bald], half his mustache and beard [again, the left side], and paint his face while following him as Maya Singh. Eventually, with the help of Jake "the Snake" Roberts and the others, Sullivan would drive Rhodes out of Florida in a loser-leaves-town match, only to have Dusty avenged by the masked "Midnight Rider", whose physique bore a striking resemblence to Rhodes'. Luger appeared later on Florida Championship Wrestling as a rookie super-stud, feuding with Barry Windham and Wahoo McDaniel, among others, before moving on to the Mid-Atlantic/Georgia/Carolinas-Crockett territory.
