Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following adventurous characters did NOT appear in the first issue of "The Brave and the Bold"?

Answer: Robin Hood

Before adopting a format much like DC's "Showcase", "The Brave and the Bold" was a book devoted to tales of adventure heroes of the past.
2. What was the name of the team that Rick Flagg led into battle against some truly odd menaces?

Answer: Suicide Squad

"Suicide Squad" was one of several features that were given multiple try-out issues in "B&B" and "Showcase", but yet did not get their own titles. At least, until about thirty years later, when a revamped Suicide Squad (this time featuring super-villains working as government agents) hit the stands after the popular "Legends" mini-series ... and this team was also led by Rick Flagg!
3. Which of the following super-heroes did NOT appear with the Justice League of America in their pioneering first appearance in "The Brave and the Bold" #28?

Answer: Green Arrow

While Green Arrow did not appear with the JLA in any of the three "B&B" stories, he was one of the first people to join the team after it graduated into its own title.
4. What was the first feature to get its own featured logo on the cover of an issue of "The Brave and the Bold"?

Answer: Viking Prince

It was somewhat fitting that when "B&B" converted to a character try-out format, that one of its longest-running features, with art by the great Joe Kubert, was the first to get a try-out.
5. What was the name of the anthology feature that had the longest continuous run in "The Brave and the Bold", after the first change in format?

Answer: Strange Sports Stories

"Strange Sports Stories" ran in issues #45-49. All featured the usual semi-science-fiction stories and relatively good art that the feature was known for.
6. What was the name of the fantastic vehicle created by Cave Carson for his "Adventures Inside Earth"?

Answer: The Mighty Mole

The Mighty Mole transported Cave, Johnny, Dozer and their pals through five subterranean adventures in "The Brave and the Bold".
7. Who provided the artwork for the first appearance of the Silver Age Hawkman, in "The Brave and the Bold" #34?

Answer: Joe Kubert

Joe Kubert was also known for his work on such features as "Viking Prince", "Sgt. Rock" and many, many other DC features and titles. He provided many stories for the original Hawkman series in "Flash Comics" as well.
8. Othe cover of "The Brave and the Bold" #38, Task Force X is in a heated battle with a prehistoric flying reptile. Upon which famous landmark is this fight pictured?

Answer: The Statue of Liberty

Task Force X, also known as the Suicide Squad, was featured in six issues of "B&B".
9. What was the first name of the man who became known as the Silent Knight?

Answer: Brian

The Silent Knight earned his name because he could never talk while wearing his armor, for fear that someone would recognize his voice as that of Brian, the lowly squire. Recent stories have established that the Silent Knight was another incarnation of Prince Khufu, the undying spirit of the man known as Hawkman.
10. Who was the first character to get his or her own magazine after appearing in the pages of "The Brave and the Bold"?

Answer: Robin Hood

"Robin Hood Tales" began in 1957, featuring some excellent artwork by Ross Andru, among others. This was somewhat of an afterthought of sorts, as DC had just purchased the rights to that same magazine from 'Quality Comics'.
