The comic strip "Beetle Bailey" was created by Mort Walker and made it's first newspaper appearance in 1950.

2. At what army post was Beetle assigned?

Answer: Camp Swampy

I'm not sure why, but Camp Swampy seemed to be a crazy place to be stationed. The officers barely maintained control of the situation in this unusual army camp.

3. There was some crazy characters on this base. Who was in charge on a day-to-day basis of the enlisted men?

Answer: Sgt. Snorkel

Sgt. Preston was a Canadian Mountee, Sgt. Slaughter was a Professional wrestler, and Sgt. Rock was NCO of Easy Co. in the comic books.

4. One of Beetle's friends thought himself to be the ladies man, who was he?

Answer: Killer

Otto was the sergeant's dog, who was usually seen walking on two feet and wearing a miniature sergeant uniform.

5. One of the soldiers was an uneducated Southern boy, what was his name?

Zero followed orders to the letter and sarge had to be careful how he told him to do something.

What's interesting about this visit and why I made it a question is this sister is married to a man named Hi. Yes these are the characters from the spinoff comic "Hi and Lois" which is also still an active newspaper comic still.
