Mortimer had been run over by a motorcycle; Mr. Jones found him unconscious and brought him home to revive him. Mrs. Jones thought Arabel was too young to have a pet.

I love how the panic spreads, with the story getting more garbled every time someone repeats it. That's right out of a Simon Pegg film; I can just hear Nick Frost saying it!
